Summary: This is great mid week sermon/teaching using the sport of wrestling as the back drop. Great for a youth group but can be used for all ages.

God’s Wrestling Team

Ready

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places - EPHESIANS 6:12.

Set

Wrestling is an individual contact sport. Unlike football, basketball, or baseball if you get fatigued no one can substitute for you. In wrestling, once you start, you have to man up for six minutes. If you get tired you must suck it up and keep on battling. You must be in the best condition physically, and mentally. The goal is to grab hold of your opponent with physical dominance and pin his shoulders on the mat. The only help you receive is the verbal advice from the coaches in your corner, and the rest is up to you. As coaches and athletes we wrestle with the temptations of sin and satin everyday. All people on Gods earth were born into sin. Satan doesn’t have to instigate every evil thought. We’ve feel victim to ourselves. We must understand also, that Satan likes to be the writer of these thoughts. We wrestle with the body of sin as well as with Satan. In order to wrestle Satin and his evil doings you have to be spiritually conditioned. Wrestlers go through rigorous training to be at the peak of there performance. In Genesis Jacob had to wrestle an angel until day break, he had to be in great condition. The same applies when wrestling with sin and evil. You must train yourself against sin and immoral thoughts everyday by going to church and studying Gods word. The church is your training facility. You ll leave out wearing the lords holy armor. Ephesians Chapter 6:13-17 says You must take up the full armor of God, so you may resist the evil of today, since you’ve prepared yourself for this, to take your stand. Stand with truth like a belt around your waist and without sin like armor on your chest, and your feet sandaled with the gospel of peace. In every situation take the shield of faith so that you can extinguish the flaming arrows of satin and his evil. Put on the helmet of salvation, and carry the sword of the Holy Spirit which is Gods word. God is your coach when you are tempted to do satins works, or sin outside the body. God will be in your corner yelling to you at the top his lungs with advice on how to rein victoriously over him. Its up to you rather or not you are willing to accept his advice. Christians are fighting an everlasting battle against satin in which there is no escape. There is no way we can venture into battle without God. Take heed to Gods advice; use it while in combat against sin. If we stay fully committed to Christ well be spiritually conditioned, and protected enough to MAN UP! And pin Satin. The battle belongs to the lord!!

GO

Do you think you wrestle can satin without God? Was there a time in your life where you had to battle sin? What are some ways that you can be spiritually trained?

Workout

James 4:7; Proverbs 2:1; Psalm 60:12

Overtime

Lord, please train my body to help me resist sin. I am not perfect and I need you in my corner to help me battle Satin and his doings. I ask you to equip me in your holy armor, protect me from all that is evil now and forevermore, Amen.

*This was done by Ryan Hayes a youth leader at friends church. This would work well on a mid week night service.
