Summary: (justified) means that we are forgiven of our sins and we have faith that God forgave through Jesus death on the cross...so we are not saved by the law

09-18-2011 Lesson...Good News to Believe...Romans 3:28-4:5 4:16-25

You will notice the little titles above the study scripture we read..they are the great truth of what we believe...Its through faith....Its a gift...Its by grace...Its assured.....that is also what we tell others.

Salvation...Its through faith.. Its by grace..it is a gift..all in

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Assured

1jo 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Its through faith.

Romans 3:28-31 (KJV)

28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:

30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

(justified) means that we are forgiven of our sins and we have faith that God forgave through Jesus death on the cross...so we are not saved by the law means ...that we can't live by the 10 commandants so we can't brag about that it ...is something that we have done or could do.

The swimmer, when he is saved from drowning, does not brag because he trusted the lifeguard.

What else could he do? When a believing sinner is justified by faith, he cannot boast of his faith, but he can boast in a wonderful Saviour.

Verse 30.... In other words, there’s only one God. And in the Old Testament, He gave man the Law. Man failed.

God didn’t save them by their keeping the Law; salvation was always by the sacrifice which man brought in faith,....and that was pointing to the coming of the Lord Jesus...and the final sacrifice for sins....nothing we did.

Verse 31 ...so do we ignore the law and do anything we want to?....no we keep it best we can and when we slip...we have forgiveness....but salvation doesn't give a license to sin.

Romans 4:1-5 (KJV)

1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

The Rabbis taught that Abraham had a bunch of merit from his good works.

Paul built on that idea and agreed that, assuming that Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about But, Paul insisted, his boasting could only be before other people, not before God.

If a person could establish his righteousness by works—though that was impossible—he could never boast of it in God’s presence. Paul then turned to an authority his readers would acknowledge and asked, What does the Scripture say?

Genesis 15:6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness

The apostle then discussed the significance of this Scripture quotation.

He pointed out that a worker’s wages are what are owed him because he earned them, and are not graciously given to him as a gift.

Abraham was the latter kind of person as the Scripture stated. He was justified not because he worked for it but because he trusted God......so God gave him the gift of salvation because of his faith

Abraham believed God, and he offered up Isaac.

But did he actually do it? No, God stopped him and would not let him go through with it. Why? Because it was wrong.

Romans 4:16-19 (KJV)

16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb:
