Summary: What’s a good Christian way to view this day of "horror"?

Halloween: A Christian Perspective

Deuteronomy 18:9-22

When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in [1] the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD , and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the LORD your God.

14 The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so. 15 The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, "Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die."

17 The LORD said to me: "What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. 19 If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account. 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death."

21 You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD ?" 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken

presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.

Let’s face it. English is an odd language.

There is no egg in the eggplant,

No ham in the hamburger,

And neither pine nor apple in the pineapple.

English muffins were not invented in England.

French fries were not invented in France.

We sometimes take English for granted,

But if we examine its paradoxes we find that

Quicksand takes you down slowly,

Boxing rings are square,

And a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

If a vegetarian eats vegetables,

What in the world does a humanitarian eat!? Humans?

English was invented by people, not computers,

And it reflects the creativity of the human race

(Which of course isn’t a race at all).

· Halloween: a human invention

My point in bringing this thought in is just that – Halloween is just a human invention, just like our English language, and like most human inventions, it takes some pretty weird twists. I can just see the Wright brothers who invented the first flying machine must be turning in their graves to see how their invention is now used as warplanes that could drop bombs from the sky. Look at Matt.15:18-20 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ’unclean.’ 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what make a man ’unclean’; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him ’unclean.’ " Anything that’s evil, we like to blame it on something else e.g. Satan, Islamic fundamentalism, communism, insensitive government cutbacks, lousy environment, green house gases but so rarely do we look into the human hearts. All the evil practices from Halloween do not come from the devil or angels. It is most definitely from a human source. Let’s face it, the truth hurts…

The Bible says in Jeremiah 17:9 (AMP): 9The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it [perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]?

What about the old days, when they do not have electricity to light up the night? As fall gives way to winter, snow arrives days grow darker sooner, colder, oohh…howling winds, creepy, scary… A gust of cold icy wind blows, and the door of your hut slams shut BANG!, aarrgh…. The spirits must be angry! so naturally folks get afraid, so they made sacrifices to the gods, the spirits, they light up the night sky with bonfires to ward away the evil …

It''s sad to me that the influence of the devil is down played so greatly in our culture. If we are to pray "lead us not into temptation" and the devil is called the tempter, then why do we question where evil comes from. Yes it is mans decision to commit evil but the process is not all his own.

Satan is powerless against God. If not for the evil that exists in all men, he would also be powerless against us. it is our own evilness that gives in to temptation, Satan cannot force us to do anything.

The devil or Satan or The Tempter has nothing beyond the power of Free Will--a gift from God that insures that an individual human being has a direct effect on his or her own fate.

Richie, should have been easier to go to your wife right away instead of waiting "six months" to get "help" from a trickster, don't you think ?
