My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. - John 10:27

What a beautiful truth we have to ponder today in hearing God's voice. It is astounding that we mortal beings on this earth can somehow be able to hear the voice of the Father in Heaven. It is sheer love and grace that allows us to be recipients of such a welcome company as God Himself. Once you have spent anytime with an individual you begin to know and understand them and recognize their voice very easily. A mother can tell at times if in the voice there is unrest, anger, hurt, sadness, or peace. Our voice speaks much of who we are and is a large part of our relationship with others. God says to us that if we are his that we will listen to his voice. Being around a farm with sheep for a few months I was able to understand quickly that my voice had no sway with the sheep at all. Trying many times they would not respond or really care for my asking them to come, go or anything. But the shepherd comes and just says a few comforting words you can tell the flock is at ease and starts to move and do things. We should enjoy to hear God's voice, desire to hear it and be glad in his company. God's voice is clearly heard when we take time to hear it, just like any conversation on earth we must usually stop doing other things and devote time to hear someone else.

We read that God knows those who listen to him. Those who love to read the Bible, those who love to hear godly things spoken about, those who spend time in prayer and stillness to hear God's voice. God can only commune with and know intimately those who have believed in the Son of God and have received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Religious men can understand the Bible but not know God. People can understand factually about God but not know God's ways and his heart. And what is given lastly as the proof of those who hear his voice? They follow him. Many of us want to follow our own ways, even to be spiritual we take bible truths and then follow them ourselves without being guided at times by the Lord. Our Lord simply wants us to be humble, quiet, willing and obedient so we can know him, hear him and follow. Lord, help me to be a simple sheep who enjoys the presence of his Master and hearing the voice, obeys. Amen.
