Summary: This sermon examines the issue on what it means to go to Heaven.

Heaven or Hell? - What is you fate?

The Bible says we will be spending eternity in one of two places. Those who spend eternity in Heaven will forever be with the Lord, there will be no pain, sadness, tears, etc. The other place, which is hell will be a place of eternal torment and pain. Mark 9:44 describes hell as being a place “where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.” There is nothing but pain and sorrow in hell. No one will be able to enjoy hell with all the sufferings. Ignore the modern day version of hell where everybody goes to party. That is a lie! If you see any of your friends, family, or children in hell they will be screaming in torment as they burn in the fire.

Let’s talk about eternity. Imagine a giant steel ball the size of the planet Jupiter. A bird flies the length of the solar system and brushes his wing upon the giant steel ball once every time he flies around. By the time the steel ball is the size of a marble, eternity has just begun. Do you want yourself, your family, your friends, or your children to be tormented for eternity or do you want them to make it to Heaven? If you aren’t concerned about where your children will go, you don’t truly love them! Same with your friends and family! You may be thinking to yourself that you do love your children and that you don’t believe there is eternity ahead. I suggest you had better do some research and make absolutely sure that the Bible isn’t correct.

So far the Bible has stood against the test of time and still holds strong. The Bible has made accurate scientific statements before science even discovered it, such as the earth is round, (Isaiah 40:22) when everyone thought the earth was flat, the fact that earth hangs upon nothing (Job 26:7) where ancient science taught that the Earth sat on the back of a large animal, the life is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11) where ancient science taught that sick people must be bled, that there is an incalculable number of stars (Jeremiah 33:22) and science taught that there were only 1,100 stars, and so much more. Hundreds of prophecies of the Bible have been fulfilled and some are currently being fulfilled. Read this issue’s article on the wicked generation. Don’t research this out just for yourself but for your children, friends, and family.

Remember, according to the Bible people either have eternal life in heaven or eternal suffering. Imagine holding a lit candle to your wrist for 1 minute. It would be pretty painful. Now imagine your whole body consumed be flames for a trillion years. A hundred years is considered a long time for a human to live and thats a very small number in comparision to a trillion. A trillion is nothing compared to eternity.

Now that we have talked about hell let’s find out what kind of people go to hell. Well, anyone that has told a single lie is worthy of hell (Revelation 20:8). Anyone that has stolen one item (the value is irrelevant) deserves to go to hell. According to Jesus, anyone who looks upon a woman with lust has committed adultery with her in his heart and adulterers do not inherit the Kingdom of God. Romans 1 says that not only those who gossip and backbite are deserving of death, but those who condone it are also deserving of death. The wrath of God abides on all those who lie, steal, commit sexual sin whether it be adultery, premarital sex, homosexuality, harlotry, etc., gossip, backbite, are prideful, are without love, are without mercy, or put anything in their life before God. How can you escape eternal torment in the Lake of Fire? It is by the wonderful mercy of Jesus Christ that a person can escape eternal torment. All those who repent of their sins, are baptized, and fully turn their life over to Jesus will be saved. Acts 2:38 says “Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Repentance is a full turn from your old way of life. Jesus said that we must deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow Him. Matthew 10:38-39 “And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” True repentance involves giving up your life, your way of doing things, your way of thinking, your ideas and opinions, and making Jesus Lord of your life. Notice Scripture also states that you must be baptized. Mark 16:16 says “he who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” Peter 3:21 says “There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” Water baptism is a necessity for salvation since it gives us the remission of sins. Mark 16:16 is a definite statement that baptism is a requirement for salvation. Some will try to use the argument and say that it does not say “Those who do not believe and are not baptized will not be saved.” There is no need to mention “those that aren’t baptized” since if a person doesn’t believe in the first place they won’t be saved. Let me give you another example. Let’s say you tell someone that “if you go to college and study real hard you will become a doctor. If you don’t go to college you won’t become a doctor.” There is no need for me to say “if you don’t go to college and don’t study hard” because the “not going to college” implies that you won’t become a doctor. Hopefully in a future issue I will be able to go into this in more detail since it is such a controversial issue.
