Summary: When the ship is being tossed, we need to drop anchor.

Holding Steady in the Storm

Illustration: Max Lucado story of the houseboat, along with the Navy story

Thesis: In the storms of Life we need to set anchors

The first of these anchors is Prayer

James 5:13-18, 1 John 5:14-15

The second of these anchors is Faith

If we pray unbelieving we get nothing

James 1:6-8

Luke 17:6 the faith the size of a mustard seed

Heb 10:19-22, Matt 6:25-33, and John 14:12-13

Prayer and Faith are great anchors but there is a third

Love

1 Cor13:4-8a

1 John 3:11, 1 John 4:18

The fourth anchor is The Word of God

2 Tim 3:16-17

Psalms 119:11, 105

Heb 4:12 If it can cut through this it can cut through any storm.

The Fifth of the anchors is God

John 14:1,27

He is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. All knowing, all powerful, and everywhere all the time.

The last of these anchors is Jesus

John 15:5 if we do all these other things we still can not do it all if we don’t have Jesus.

Any one of these anchors may help us weather the storm, all 5 will help us stay the course through all stormy weather

The decision is yours, do you just want to weather the storm, or do you want to stay the course? Put all 5 in your life daily, follow what they did in Acts 2:42-47 everyday they prayed, had fellowship, ate with glad and sincere hearts, enjoying favor of God and men.

I hope the hurricane misses you, but in case it doesn’t take a sailor’s advice, “anchor deep, say a prayer, hold on to God, and don’t be surprised if someone walks across the water to give you a hand.”
