UNDERSTANDING THE SIGNIFICANCE, THE HOLY SPIRIT CANNOT BE SEPARATED FROM THE CORE OF OUR IDENTITY IN JESUS CHRIST.

I. The Holy Spirit is the agent of our regeneration in Jesus Christ.

Possible because of the work of Christ, appropriate through the work of the Holy Spirit

Regenerated: To be reborn; to be recreated into a new thing.

2 Cor 5:17

John 3:3-8

3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

4 "How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"

5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

II. The Holy Spirit will teach us of life in Jesus Christ.

John 14:26

26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. NIV

III. The Holy Spirit changes our character to be like Jesus Christ.

Gal 5:22-25

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. NIV

IV. The Holy Spirit gifts us for purpose in Jesus Christ.

1 Cor 12:7, 11

7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. . . . 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. NIV

V. The Holy Spirit defines our role in the mission of Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:4-5

4 As you come to him, the living Stone -- rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him-- 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. NIV

VI. The Holy Spirit leads us in the fulfill of that purpose in Jesus Christ.

Acts 1:8

UNDERSTANDING THE SIGNIFICANCE, THE HOLY SPIRIT CANNOT BE SEPARATED FROM THE CORE OF OUR IDENTITY IN JESUS CHRIST.

SUMMARY

Holy Spirit Dependency

We value the indwelling presence and work of the Holy Spirit. The life we are called to live, the purpose we are destined to pursue is not possible without his transforming work in our lives. Without His presence and power in our lives we will never fulfill our calling and purpose.
