How About Love?

Summary: How do you look back on your life?
A while back, I had the opportunity to view a musical-turned-movie called "Rent." Set in New York City, it depicts the struggles faced by several gay couples, including victims of the HIV virus and AIDS. This play depicted scenes that involved rebellion against society, violence, drug use, and more than enough pre-marital sex to go around. Overall, not the typical Christian play...
...until you witness the beginning of Act II...
At the end of Act I, I watched as one of the main characters was killed, the curtains closed, leaving many of us in tears. This character, a cross-dresser, was killed by a gang out of pure hate. The curtains closed, ending Act I, and as we watched, we were all thinking the same thing: "What is wrong with our world?"
After the intermission, the cast came on stage, single-file, lining up across the platform. One lone piano was heard, and the words came out answered that horrible question: "What is wrong with our world?" Several phrases stuck out from this song, blowing me away.
How do you measure a year in your life?
In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife?
How about love?
Measure in love
So how do you measure your life? When you look back on your past, what do you look for? Some people look for time as the overall factor, thinking that surviving sixty years, seventy years, eighty years is what makes their life a success. Some look at their families, their friends, and their careers.
How about love?
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
No matter what we do while we are here, it will not matter without the love. Anything we say, anything we do, anything we feel is useless before God unless we do it in love.
Will you be remembered for your job? your family? your career?
How about love?
