Summary: Does your church offer sign language you may need it as you destroy the hearing of your congregation.

How loud is too loud? I am an old hippie and my '69 Camaro had a great stereo system and I liked it loud and proud. Well, that might be partly why I have some hearing loss though the VA says my hearing is perfect. My wife disagrees. Anyway, I have a lot of folks that I care about that love that praise and worship music even louder than I had my Doors and Hendrix.

For the pastor friends on here that have that going on, I have to exhort you that as you seek to care for the souls of your congregation you must look out for their bodies as well or in your 20th year of ministry you will be needing to know sign language because your folks in their 40s and 50s will be stone deaf. I know some of you folks are well into the 100 range and over.

Song leader, do you really think God is blessing you destroying their eardrums in the name of worship? I am not critiquing worship styles or genres, but a reality check is needed before you seriously harm your congregants. Have someone monitor the decibels in your services and see where you are at on this scale. It might shock you. Show a little love and turn it down. http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/hearing/pages/ruler.aspx God is not deaf, so why should His worshipers be deaf?

1 Kings 19:11-12

11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.KJV

If you are really seeking to worship and hear His voice, you may be defeating your purpose by drowning out the still small voice with your wind and earthquake. Jist sayin'.

Shalom! Maranatha!
