Summary: using an apple as an illustration, this sermon deals with how we never know just hoe big of an impact the things we do for Jesus will have on the world.
How Many Seeds Are In This Apple?
John 1: 35-42
How many seeds are in this apple?
Well, let’s find out!
(Cut the apple open and count them)
So…there are ___ seeds in this apple!
Now…how many apples are in this seed?
We will never know…will we?
Open your Bibles to John Chapter 1.
 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
Allow me to tell you about Edward Kimball.
Ed Kimball was a Sunday school teacher.
One day, a doctor told Kimball he was going to die.
He had very little time to live.
So he went out to lead all of his Sunday School students to the Lord.
One young man, in particular,
didn’t seem to understand what the Gospel was about.
So Kimball went to the shoe store where he was stocking shelves.
He met him in the stock room
And told him the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus.
That young man was Dwight L. Moody!
In the stockroom on that Saturday,
Dwight Lyman Moody accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.
In his lifetime, Moody touched two continents for God.
Untold thousands came to faith in Jesus Christ!
The Moody Bible Institute educates hundreds of missionaries…
Preachers and Bible teachers…every year.
The Moody Broadcasting Network provides 24 hours a day
Christian programming over hundreds of Christian radio stations.
There is also the Moody Press publishing company in Chicago…
Which prints thousands of Christian books.
There’s no way to know how many souls have been saved…
Because of the work of Dwight L. Moody.
But the story doesn’t end there.
Successful Soul Winners Have:
#1 A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST
Look at Verses 37, 40
37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
I like that word “followed”!
There Is A Change of direction In Salvation
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Have you been born again?
Before you can tell others about Jesus,
you must know what you are talking about!
You have to be saved before you can share Jesus!
There Is A Confidence In Salvation.
2 Cor. 13:5
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
The soul winner must have his/her salvation nailed down.
When there is a lack of confidence in one’s own salvation,
there will be a lack of power in one’s witness.
It is possible to know for sure.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
There Is A Clear Testimony Of Salvation.
The soul winner must understand his own salvation experience.
Only then can he tell others what has happened in his life.
Your most powerful illustration of salvation
is your own personal experience with Jesus Christ.
Andrew was able to share with Peter
because he had already met Jesus Christ.
So was the Demon possessed man in Mark 5:20
And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
I’m glad you folk are saved, but I can’t testify of your experience.
I can tell you, however, what Jesus did for me!
Under D.L. Moody, another man’s heart was touched for God.
Moody was preaching in Great Britain.
A lady teacher was so moved by his preaching
