HOW TO BE AND OVERCOMER

There are many wonderful things that are promised to the over comer

A few of these blessings are referred to in the bible

.

Rev.2: 7He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God

Rev. 2: 11He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Satan never stops he is busy trying to keep believers from being over comers.

1st John 2: 13I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

14I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

A few prayer hours and study in Gods word will help you to be and over comer

We must know how to overcome.

(1) Have no confidence in the flesh.

Phil. 3: 3For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

We must put off the flesh

The flesh will betray you

(2) We must starve the flesh

Rom.13: 14But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

When a person is saved he has (2) natures.

Gal.5: 17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

(3) We must feed the new nature.

1st Peter 2: 2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby:

You can’t feed both at the same time. What starves one feeds the other.

Worldly amusements will starve the nature of Christ.

Prayer and bible study will feed the new nature.

(4) Walk in the Spirit

Gal.5: 16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Walk as we are led by the spirit

Avoid the lust of the flesh

To walk other wise is death.

Rom.8; 6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

As Christ was received walk according.

Col. 2: 6As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

(5) Mortify the deeds of the body.

Rom. 8: 13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Being under subjection to the doings of the body that are wrong.

Christ said amputate it.

Matt;18: 8Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.

9And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.

(6) Lay it down.

Heb. 12: 1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Weights are not sin all the time.

What takes up your time and keeps you from doing Gods work.

In conclusion let us live and work that we may have a great reward.
