Summary: There are at least seven different ways to walk as Christians.

I John 1:1-10

Topic: How to walk as Christians

It has been said that if one want to feel better, reduce stress, shed some unwanted pounds, or become physically fit, they should try walking as an exercise. A fitness philosophy of 10,000 steps a day, which first took hold in Japan, has gained popularity in many countries. Exercise experts advise that when using walking as an exercise, one should start out slowly and working toward a higher goal, realizing that each day, every step counts.

But yet, there is another type of walking exercise that is just as important when it comes to walking to stay physically fit. And that walking exercise is called,“walking with God”, which helps to stay spiritually fit by " having an intimate, growing relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

In the Word of God, we are given instructions on how we should walk with God and how we should walk as Christians. In this message, we are going to learn the 8 different ways on how we should walk as Christians.

1.As Christians, we are to Walk in the Newness of Life.

Romans 6:1-4 says this: “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid! How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us are baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death; that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the father, even so we also should walk in the newness of life.”

To walk in the newness of life means to walk in the new life that Christ Jesus has given you. It means as Christian, you should have a new outlook on things, a new attitude, new joy, new hope, new faith, new walk, new talk, new ways of living, new thoughts. We as Christians should walk in the newness of life because we are new creatures in Christ Jesus.

II Corinthians 5:17 says this: “If any be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things become new.”

2. As Christians, we should Walk in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16 says this: “This I say then, “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

To walk in the Spirit means to be guided by the Holy Spirit.

John 16:13-14 says this: “Howbeit, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come he will guide you into all truth; for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.”

Romans 8:14 say this: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

To walk in the Spirit also means to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 5:18 says this: “Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess, but be filled with the Spirit.

3.As Christians, we should Walk in Truth.

3 John 4 says this: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in the truth.”

In John 14:6, Jesus said that He was “the way, the truth, and the life.” Jesus Christ is the True Son of God who is all about the truth. And because Jesus is all about the truth, we as Christians should be honest and always live and tell the truth.

Colossian 3:9 says this: “Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds.”

Ephesians 4:25 says this: “Wherefore putting away lying. Speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.”

4.As Christians, we should Walk in Wisdom.

Ephesians 5:15 says this: “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.

Colossians 4:5 says this: “Walk in wisdom toward then that are without, redeeming the time.”

We as Christians should always be wise in their daily living in everything that they do or say. To become a wise person one should pray and study the Word of God so they can be able to do the things that are wise unto our Lord Jesus Christ.

II Timothy 3:14-15 says this: “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou has learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures(The Word of God) which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

James 1:5 says this: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
