Summary: David’s faith was established in God because he knew he had called on the true God.

Introduction:

David knew he was in tune with God

“Let the wicked be ashamed”. He knew because had had a special time of fellowship with God.

David was known for his fellowship with God

It is no surprise to know he called upon God

David knew:

I. david knew who God really was (Ps. 89:18,26)

A. David knew that God was his defense

-How many times do we try and take care of ourselves

-God wants to help us with our infirmities

-(Phil. 4:13) “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

-Stop trying to take care of you, take care of others.

B. David knew God was his salvation

-What an encouragement to know that God is the rock of our salvation

-Not the:

1. Pope

2. Catholic Church

3. Religion

4. Baptism

5. Sacraments

-Jesus is the rock

(Ps. 18:2) “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”

(Ps. 18:31) “For who is God save the Lord? Or who is a rock save our God?”

(Ps. 28:1) “Unto thee will I cry, O Lord my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.”

(Ps. 31:3) “For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.”

(Ps. 62:2) “He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.”

(I Cor.10: 1-4) READ

-Christ is our rock; flee to that rock that can satisfy

-David knew and called out to God.

II. David knew where to find God (Ps. 139:7-12) READ

-The problem Christians have today is they don’t know where to find God.

-David knew God was everywhere he was at

-It helps to know where to find God:

1. David – in the back of a shepherd’s field

2. Moses-in the back side of a desert

3. Jonah-in the belly of a whale

4. Paul-on a lonely road

5. Philip-in the middle of death

6. Zacheus-in the top of a sycamore tree

-We will never know where God is at unless we keep in continual touch with him.

III. David knew how to use God (37:4,5)

-Most people don’t know how to use God

-God wants us to let him bless us

-Our problems are our desires

-David wanted what God had, but it was what God wanted to give him

*To get what you want from God, want what God wants to give you

*If you want what God dives you, you will always get what you want

-Stop being selfish

-Want stuff for others

-God may give to you according to how much you give

(Luke 6:38) “Give, and it shall be given you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give unto your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured unto you again.”

IV. David knew when God was there

(Ps. 17:8) “Keep me as the apple of thy eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,”

(Ps. 34:18) “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

(Ps. 36:7) “How excellent is thy loving kindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.”

(Ps. 57:1) “Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.”

(Ps 61:4) “I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah”

-David knew he was under the wings of God

-He had a place of refuge where he ran in trouble

-S many look for peace but in the wrong place

*Salvation provides the way for eternal refuge

*YOU MUST RUN TO THE REFUGE*

-A refuge never looks for you

V. David knew what God could to do

A. He knew God would hear him

B. He knew God would come out on top

-Remember Goliath

-God had been proved in David’s life

Conclusion:

1. The key is calling upon the Lord

2. David had a history of calling on God that is why he knew these things about God.

3. These things don’t just happen, they come after you run to God time and time again

4. Find an altar and make it yours.
