Summary: Inspired by the title of the old Paul Harvey, If I were the devil.

I would promote preachers who loved money and then put some of them on big TV. I would get them to tell people they would receive a miracle if they sent money to them. I would teach them you can essentially BUY God's favor and miracles!

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” I Timothy 6:10

I would get the preachers to talk about money sooo much that lost souls all over the world would become confused and angry and think: "PREACHERS CARE MORE ABOUT MY MONEY THAN MY SOUL."

"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” Mark 8:36

I would tell people, “You don't need the local church.” “You are spiritual enough, you don't need to be part of a church.” I'd make them blind to the fact that they are supposed to go to church to encourage others.

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25

I'd fill them will spiritual pride, making them think they spiritual enough on their own to have no need for the local church. I'd convince them that everyone there were judgmental hypocrites while tricking them into not realizing they are the ones being judgmental and hypocritical.

“Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.” Romans 2:1

I would replace the true gospel of salvation and eternal life with moralism and social issues. If I could do that, I wouldn't care who went to church because no one would ever find out the most important thing- how to have eternal life.

“Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God...Most assuredly, I [Jesus] say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life...This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent." John 3:3, 5:24 6:29

“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures” I Corinthians 15:3-4

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

I would cut the legs from under the gospel by tricking people to thinking faith meant more than simply believing the truth of the gospel. I'd teach them the requirement for salvation included obeying rules and observing practices, getting them to trust in themselves rather than in the finished work of Jesus.

“ if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10

I would convince pastors to go soft on sin. I'd convince them that making people feel good and happy is more important that calling them to live holy. I'd tell them as long as you be nice and kind, you can live as immoral as you please as long as you don't hurt anyone else. I'd convince them that wanting to obey God out of love and gratitude for the gift of salvation was really just “legalism.”

“If you love Me [Jesus], keep my commandments.” John 14:15

“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.” I John 5:3

I'd put nationalism and patriotism on par with the gospel, making it part of all Americans' "Christianity." I'd tell them it's not idolatry to worship your country and make it equal with faith in Christ. I'd convince them that being an American is enough to be a Christian.

“Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world.” John 18:36

“ You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.” II Timothy 2:3-4

In short, I would do exactly what Satan is doing to deceive our world today!
