In Christ Alone: Assurance of Salvation

If you died tonight do you know for sure you will go to heaven?

If your answer to this question is; I hope so, or I do not think anyone can know for sure, then read on. The Bible makes it clear you can know for sure. We call this your assurance of salvation.

Recently I asked a young man if he knew for sure if he would go to heaven if he were to die. He was serving God, but he did not think anyone could know for sure. When I shared with him the Bible verse John 10:28, he realized that he could know for sure and he began to cry.

John 10:28 says, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.”

Let me share a few more simple verses with you to help you know for sure you will go to heaven when you die.

God’s Purpose

God’s created you to have fellowship with Him and for you to spend eternity with him and go to heaven.

The problem is our sin. God is Holy and will not allow sin to enter heaven. Our sin separates us from God and keeps us from entering Heaven.

Sins consequences

The Bible says: “But your sins have separated you from your God; (Isaiah 59:2)

….for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

Because God is just He must punish sin. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

God is merciful

But not only is God Holy and Just He is also merciful and has provided a way of forgiveness.

In God’s mercy He sent Jesus Christ who was righteous to die on the cross for us the unrighteous. Jesus died on the cross for you. Jesus died on the cross to pay for your sin.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,

Grace

We cannot reach God by our own effort. It is by grace, God’s undeserved gift. We repent, acknowledge our sins have separated us to God and turn from them.

Faith

Jesus death for you covers your sins when you trust Jesus, put your faith in Him.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).

Express your faith in Jesus through prayer.

Your prayer of faith

Dear God. I know you created me to be in fellowship with you. I thank you that you sent your Son, Jesus to this earth to die on the cross for me. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I want to turn from my sins and invite you, Lord Jesus into my heart. I desire to know the truth that sets me free. I want to trust you as my savior and Lord and follow you from now on. I pray this in Jesus name, Amen.

Did you sincerely pray this prayer to God?

When you turned from your sin and put your faith in Christ you received Christ. You can know for sure you will spend eternity in heaven. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to them that believe on His name” (John 1:12).

In Jesus You have Eternal Life

Now that you have sincerely trusted Jesus to save you, your sins are forgiven. In Christ alone you have eternal life.

The Bible says, “You also where included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession-to the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:13)

Now read the Bible every day and obey God!
