In Jesus There’s Peace

John 16 31-33

 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? 32 The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, every man to his home, and will leave me alone; yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. 33 I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

We must note that Jesus is in a very deep discussion with his disciples and is thrilled with the revelations of his disciples but he has to quickly remind them that though they have drawn a conclusion that he has truly come from God there’s an hour to come that they will soon scatter at the time of his arrest. He further states “Christ would be alone, and yet in that hour the Father is with me”. Note the origin of in me … peace. He lets them know that in him they had peace, but in the world they would have tribulation. Nevertheless be of good cheer

(be courageous). Even though they would be opposed by the world, they should remember that Christ had overcome the world. So should they overcome the world because they would be persecuted for baring witness of his name.

As we attempt to walk this Christian walk we should be reminded of the things Christ had to endure for the sake of our freedom, and be reminded that in Christ there is peace, therefore, we cannot abandon the one who holds what we need within himself nor turn to the world because the world abhors every principle that he teaches or stands for. Jesus tells them that in the world there is nothing more than tribulation, nonetheless, though that’s all the world has, Jesus says “Be of Good Cheer”. Therefore, we have to look into the eye of adversity and stand in a posture of courage never wavering, not looking to the right, to the left or behind but doing what Jesus has said, being courageous. Paul says in Philippians 3:13 & 14 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. This is to suggest that he is not detained but one thing he does he forgets the things that were behind him and attaining ahead of him and further states that he pushes toward the characteristic which is his reward of God in Christ Jesus. For that reason, we need to keep it pushing and forget everything that’s behind us and keep pressing toward the prize, because all in all Jesus is everything, including peace.

As we conclude we should understand that the father is with Jesus as Jesus is with the father and should be noted that because of this connection in God there is comfort and in Jesus there is peace because the father has never departed.
