Summary: If we consider the fact that God looks upon our nation like he does to Israel, then is it possible that the blessings and judgments God places on Israel could also apply to America?

Is God Judging America

Leviticus 26:14-39 Monte T. Brown

July 5, 2009 Sunday Morning

Heart O’ the Hills

Introduction

Have you ever wonder way things seem to be getting worst in America. Why crime is up, why things seem to be falling apart, why the weather seems to be changing?

We I believe the answers to these questions and more are found in the Bible, God’s inspired Word.

The Old Testament is not a book for those that lived long ago, but is reveal ant to us today.

God told the nation of Israel that if they did not obey is law, love him and serve him that he would pass judgment upon them. I believe that this also holds true for America.

We founded our country on the precepts of God and God holds us accountable for our actions.

If we fail to adhere to His word then judgment will come.

God will send judgment in 5 stages. This morning we will look at the 5 stages of judgment that comes to a nation that turns from God.

We can learn from the past or we can continue to make the same mistake those in the past made.

The decision is ours.

We can make a difference and we can change the course we as a nation are traveling.

Prayer

Stage 1:

Loss of health, decline of agricultural prosperity, terror in combat, loss of personal freedoms:

Leviticus 26:14-17

However, if you do not listen to me or obey my commands, 15and if you break my covenant by rejecting my laws and treating my regulations with contempt, 16I will punish you. You will suffer from sudden terrors, with wasting diseases, and with burning fevers, causing your eyes to fail and your life to ebb (fade) away. You will plant your crops in vain because your enemies will eat them. 17I will turn against you, and you will be defeated by all your enemies. They will rule over you, and you will run even when no one is chasing you!

Stage 2:

Economic recession and depression, increased personal discipline:

Leviticus 26:18-20

And if, in spite of this, you still disobey me, I will punish you for your sins seven times over. 19I will break down your arrogant spirit by making the skies above as unyielding as iron and the earth beneath as hard as bronze. 20All your work will be for nothing, for your land will yield no crops, and your trees will bear no fruit.

If we disobey God and live in our sins, we shall receive punishment for our sins seven times over.

You see people have nervous breakdowns.

Suicides will increase.

Weather will be affected, thus affecting crops.

Your investments will start to fail.

All the efforts you put forth in your work will be in vain.

No one will recognize your efforts.

All your hard work will yield no fruit.

Stage 3:

Violence and breakdown of law and order, cities destroyed:

Leviticus 26:21-22

If even then you remain hostile toward me and refuse to obey, I will inflict you with seven more disasters for your sins. 22I will release wild animals that will kill your children and destroy your cattle, so your numbers will dwindle and your roads will be deserted.

You will see more disasters than ever before.

More violent acts against one another.

An increase in animals killing our kids.

Future population will begin to decline.

Stage 4:

Military conquest, foreign occupation of the land, scarcity of food, break up of the family unit:

Leviticus 26:23-26

And if you fail to learn a lesson from this and continue your hostility toward me, 24then I myself will be hostile toward you, and I will personally strike you seven times over for your sins. 25I will send armies against you to carry out these covenant threats. If you flee to your cities, I will send a plague to destroy you there, and you will be conquered by your enemies. 26I will completely destroy your food supply, so the bread from one oven will have to be stretched to feed ten families. They will ration your food by weight, and even if you have food to eat, you will not be satisfied.

If we continue in our sins, we will see these thing come to past.

Stage 5:

Destruction of the nation:

Leviticus 26:27-39

If after this you still refuse to listen and still remain hostile toward me, 28then I will give full vent to my hostility. I will punish you seven times over for your sins. 29You will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters. 30I will destroy your pagan shrines and cut down your incense altars. I will leave your corpses piled up beside your lifeless idols, and I will despise you. 31I will make your cities desolate and destroy your places of worship, and I will take no pleasure in your offerings of incense. 32Yes, I myself will devastate your land. Your enemies who come to occupy it will be utterly shocked at the destruction they see. 33I will scatter you among the nations and attack you with my own weapons. Your land will become desolate, and your cities will lie in ruins. 34Then at last the land will make up for its missed Sabbath years as it lies desolate during your years of exile in the land of your enemies. Then the land will finally rest and enjoy its Sabbaths. 35As the land lies in ruins, it will take the rest you never allowed it to take every seventh year while you lived in it.
