1 Chronicles 4 v 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

I. HIS PROBLEM And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

A. THE REASON FOR HIS NAME “His mother bore him with sorrow.”

1. Was it because the delivery was hard? 2. Was it because times were hard?

C. THE RESPONSE TO HIS NAME "Jabez was more honourable than his brethren"

II. HIS PRAYER 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!And God granted him that which he requested.

C. CONSIDER HIS PETITION 10 Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!

1.He Sought the Praise Of God “Bless me.”

2. He Sought the Promotion Of God "and enlarge my coast"

3. He Sought the Presence Of God "that thine hand might be with me"

a. He needed God’s hand to Distinguish him. (to be different) Exodus 33: 15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.

16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

b. He needed God’s hand to Direct him. and that thou wouldest keep me from evil
