JESUS’ PRAYER OF INTERCESSION

John 17:1-26

INTRO: We often think of the Model Prayer as being the Lord’s Prayer, but it isn’t. The prayer that was the Lords’ is the prayer found in John 17.

Let’s examine a few things about this prayer.

I. THERE ARE SEVEN PETITIONS.

A. That Jesus may be glorified as the Son who glorified

the Father (v. 1; Philippians 2: 9-11).

B. For the restoration to the eternal glory (v. 5).

C. For the safety of believers:

1. From the world (v. 11).

2. From Satan (v. 15).

D. For the sanctification of believers (v. 17).

E. For the spiritual unity of believers (v. 21).

F. That the world may believe (v. 21).

G. That believers may be with Him in heaven to behold and

share His glory (v. 24).

II. THIS PRAYER IS FOR US.

A. We should try to glorify Christ with our lives.
