Summary: Joseph and Salvation

Gen 42 v.1 - 23 JOSEPH, THE SAVIOUR

I. THERE WAS A CONFRONTATION v.3 And Joseph's ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt.

A. Because of a drought (Famine)

B. Because of desperation (Egypt reminded Brothers Of Joseph, reluctant to go)

C. Because of divine intervention II. THERE WAS A CONVICTION v.9 And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.

Joseph confronted his brothers as Holy Ghost in conviction He Questioned Their:-

A. Past

1. He remembered the dreams and how they rejected their truth

2. their deeds

B. Present "ye are spies". A convicted sinner is made aware of his present condition: he is a sinner, alienated from God Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

C. Purpose "to see the nakedness of the land ye are come."

Mr 10:51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.

III. THERE WAS A CONFUSION v. 8 And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him. John 1:10-11 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

I. HE WAS BORN AMONG THEM, BUT HIS BRETHREN KNEW HIM NOT

THEY KNEW NOT HIS:-

A. PERSON B. POSITION John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

C. PURPOSE ie. Salvation

1. Joseph - salvation from a great dearth

2. Jesus - salvation from a great damnation D. POWER John 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

II. HE BELONGED TO THEM BUT HIS BRETHREN KNEW HIM NOT

A. He was fashioned like them Family resemblance Phil 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

B. He had a fondness for them 1Tim 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

C. He had favoritism toward them Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

III. HE WAS BETRAYED BY THEM, BUT HIS BRETHREN KNEW HIM NOT

Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

1 Corinthians 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

They did not realize that they were betraying

A. Their own family

B. Their own friend

C. Their own future

IV. HE BROUGHT SALVATION TO THEM, BUT HIS BRETHREN KNEW HIM NOT

Genesis 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

HE BROUGHT

A. Life in Egypt Bread John 10:10; The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

B. Land in Egypt. The BEST of the land Romans 12:1 beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

C. Liberty in Egypt John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

IV. THERE WAS A CONFESSION v.11 We are all one man's sons; we are true men, thy servants are no spies.

v.13 And they said, Thy servants are twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and, behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is not.

A CONFESSION OF: -

A. Their Character "we are true men"

B. Their Conduct v.13 And they said, Thy servants are twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and, behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is not.
