Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. - 1 Corinthians 10:12
Life is full of ups and downs as we navigate through circumstances and situations. There are many moments of valley experiences where all is seemingly lost, all hope is gone and you wonder when you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Though during these times of pressure, darkness, wilderness and trial we actually reach out to God very easily and end up being much more reliant on him. God will even all some circumstances that are common to all men to come to his disciples so that they will seek him more readily. So trials and problems are not dangerous places to be when we have our eyes on the Lord. God even says he stoops down and is close to the broken-hearted. What a comfort to know that the Lord takes special care to bind up our wounds and hurts in life. When we cry tears of hurt he see's them and wipes them away from our face.
The more dangerous place to be as believers in the Lord is on the mountain top. It is when all things seem so well, life seems perfect, trials seem so far away, pressures of life seem minimal. It is during these things when we are ontop of the mountain with great spiritual victories in our walk that the greatest dangers are closest. Take heed that you do not fall, literally gives us the picture of being up high in some place of victory and accomplishment. The sins listed the verses before this passage show all the failings of Israel in the desert. Yet we should always remain humble, for it is only by the grace of God that we are able to have victory and not fall into the same errors. If you are standing today on the mountain-top of victory, humble yourself and remain that way and God will preserve you in this life towards the heavenly kingdom.
