Kept Alive for Life’s Greatest Adventure

Joshua 14:10-12

Caleb was the Optimistic Spy

Caleb was sent to scout the Promised Land

He was one of the twelve spies sent by Moses (Numbers 13:6)

Caleb returned, believing Israel could conquer Canaan (Numbers 13:30)

Caleb was the Spy Who Outlived the Doubters

All the spies died except Caleb & Joshua

Faith and Positive action are life extenders

Caleb Became a Senior on His greatest Adventure

I. Caleb Had Been Kept Alive for This Adventure (v. 10)

a. “The Lord hath kept me alive”

b. We have been kept alive for the adventures of this new year

c. God has a lifelong purpose for each of us

d. Advancing years add to the adventure

i. Caleb now had more wisdom than when younger

ii. Caleb had gained more respect from his family & friends

iii. Caleb’s faith had increased with age

iv. Caleb was better able to serve than ever before

e. Too many shrink from adventure in faith because of their age

f. Don’t let advancing years keep you from life’s greatest adventures

II. Caleb Had Strength for this Adventure

a. At 85, he refused to believe he was too weak to succeed

i. He focused on strength rather than weakness

ii. Some older people think of their ailments

iii. Caleb at 85 thought of the joy of adventure

b. Caleb viewed his strength as sufficient for what ever was ahead

i. He said he was strong at 85 as at 45

ii. He was strong enough to travel into Canaan

iii. He was strong enough to go to war expecting victory

c. Christ provides strength for the day (Deut. 33:25/Phil. 4:13)

III. Caleb Believed God Had equipped Him for This Adventure

a. “Give me this Mountain”

b. God has equipped us for what He wants us to do

c. Age brings new adventures

i. Travel may take us on adventures in new places

ii. Health problems may bring us into contact with needy people

iii. Wisdom will enable us to be better servants of God

iv. Understanding will give us greater compassion for hurting ones

Doing God’s will is Life’s Greatest Adventure

The adventure begins with salvation by grace (Eph. 2:8-9)

God has great adventures planned for all who believe
