Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: Jesus came meekly on a donkey but will return victorious on a war horse.

Focus Passage: Matthew 21:1-11

Supplemental Passage: And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS." Revelation 19:11-16 NASB

Introduction: I’ve lived in two earthly kingdoms, vastly different from each other. The first was when I lived in British Hong Kong, in the United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth II’s picture was on postage stamps and the money. Everything was Royal this or Royal that. When I lived there, in the late 1980s, Hong Kong people weren’t too happy with their monarch, as she had agreed to hand HK back to the Chinese in 1997. Then, in the mid 2000s, I lived in the Kingdom of Thailand. King Bhumibol’s picture was not only on the postage stamps and money, but also plastered all over the highways and in every shop & business and every home. At movie theaters, there was a tribute to the king where everyone stood in homage while they played a video about him. His birthday was a national holiday. They even decorated their houses with lights like we do at Christmas. They honored and revered him so much that if you stepped on their money, there were penalties, because it was like stepping on the king. Some considered him to be divine. As Americans, we don’t go in for the royal stuff so much. We realize that they are regular people with human problems and human issues. However, we also live in the Kingdom of God. Unfortunately, we treat God more like HK people treated the queen. Give a little respect, but are generally disconnected and maybe a little bitter. One day, though, Jesus will return as KING of the Earth and will reign for 1000 years. Are you ready for His coming Kingdom?

Application/Invitation: Is Jesus the King of YOUR life? The Bible is very clear and says that one day “at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10-11 NASB)
