Summary: We are living in a day and time when people are more concerned about their selves than they are others. Selfishness is the root of many of our society’s and personal problems.

2 Timothy 3:1-5-But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:

For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! (NKJV)

2-For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (KJV)

2-For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (NKJV)

2-For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. (NLT)

2-For people will love only themselves and there money. They will be proud and boastful, sneering at God, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful to them and thoroughly bad, they will be hard headed and never give in to others. (The Living Bible)

We are living in a day and time when people are more concerned about their selves than they are others.

Selfishness is the root of many of our society’s and personal problems.

In the world we live in, to many people say, “it’s me first”, “my rights”, or “what’s in it for me?”

The selfie-One commentator on society, made this remark….”It is a bad attempt to prove that we were here, that we existed, that we mattered, that we counted!”

But the selfie has proved without a reasonable doubt, that we are fascinated with our self, and how we look!

I stood in front of a guy in a line at Wal-mart, at the black Friday sale. And for 45 minutes, he talked non-stop and if that wasn’t bad enough, he talked non-stop about himself, where he had been, what he had done, who he had meet!

But that’s how people are! What was that country song years ago? I want talk about, want talk about I!

The root cause of every sin, at lest the ones I can think of, is being lovers of ourselves!

We want to do, what makes us happy, what satisfies us, what pleases us!

There is a healthy love for ourselves and there is a unhealthy love of ourselves!

There is some people who don’t love themselves enough, or they wouldn’t do the things to their bodies they do….cutting, drugs, alcohol, over eating, smoking….the list goes on!

But there are plenty of people, who love themselves to much!!

They can’t love nobody else because they are to busy loving themselves!

As Clint Eastwood would say, “They are legend in their own mind!”

God knows that the majority people love themselves, that’s why He gave that command…Love thy neighbor as thy self!

He knows we are going feed our self, when we are hungry!

We are going to clothe our self, if we are naked!

He knows that most of us are going to do what is best for us, what benefits us, and if He can get us to love others, the way we love our self.

Then we will put their interest, their needs, before our own!!

Philippians 2:4-Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Philippians 2:21-For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.

1 Corinthians 10:24-Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.

1 John 3:17-But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
