Majority is Wrong

A. Author: Matthew or Levi

B. Key Thought: Fulfilled

C. Audience: Jews

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Do not be swayed by the majority.

1. Not be influenced, convinced or follow. (Exodus 23:33)

Exodus 23:33

They must not live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me. If you serve their gods, you will be caught in the trap of idolatry.”

2. Not to make a treaty (Exodus 34:12)

Exodus 34:12

“Be very careful never to make a treaty with the people who live in the land where you are going. If you do, you will follow their evil ways and be trapped.

3. Don't walk in their counsel (Psalms 1:1)

Psalms 1:1

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.

4. Don't do their ways, don't imitate them. (Psalms 1:1, Proverbs 4:14)

Psalms 1:1

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.

Proverbs 4:14

Don’t do as the wicked do, and don’t follow the path of evildoers.

5. Don't envy them (Proverbs 24:1)

Don’t envy evil people or desire their company.

When I wrote to you before, I told you not to associate with people who indulge in sexual sin.

7. Don't associate with them (1 Corinthians 5:11)

1 Corinthians 5:11

I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people.

8. Don't be yoke with them

a. Don't feel what they feel, don't think what they think. (2 Corinthians 6:14, 2 John 1:10)

2 Corinthians 6:14

Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?

2 John 1:10

If anyone comes to your meeting and does not teach the truth about Christ, don’t invite that person into your home or give any kind of encouragement.

B. What is learned?

1. The majority or crows is always wrong.

- These same majority or crowd crucified the LORD.

(Matthew 27:22, Mark 15:13, Luke 23:21, John 19:6)

Matthew 27:22

Pilate responded, “Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” They shouted back, “Crucify him!”

Mark 15:13

They shouted back, “Crucify him!”

Luke 23:21

But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”

John 19:6

When they saw him, the leading priests and Temple guards began shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” “Take him yourselves and crucify him,” Pilate said. “I find him not guilty.”

2. Don't love the world. (1 John 2:15-17)

1 John 2:15-17

15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.

16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.

17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

IX. CONCLUSION:

Don't love the world. (1 John 2:15-17)

1 John 2:15-17

15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.

16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.

17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.
