Making Plans and setting Goals... James 4:13-17

Introduction.

It is in every day life that we live, we have to make some sort of Plans or Goals in all we do from Time to time, some days we get up from a night’s sleep and start our day, and many times we are move into a place that requires us to have to make some plans. Many times it may be for just that day or maybe could be for the rest of our week.

Many people have great big Ideal, and it is very important that we plan our plans and give our Ideals to the Lord.

Someone has said To Fail to Plan, Is to plan to fail.

How many people here has every made plans or Goals and never give God a thought?

Every went on a vacation without even giving God thought? One would think that no Christian would do that. But it is so easy to get carry away in our Plans that we can just leave God out of every thing.

In James 4:13-17...He gives us some great wisdom of Planning, But foolishness of planning without Gods help.

Luke 12:16-21 Give the account of the rich fool, Has he said I have so much that I don’t have room to it, so I will tare down my barns and build bigger ones. And he did all that with out a very thought of God.

God called him a fool, and that very night his soul was required of him.

LETS TALK ABOUT IT.

In our text in James 4:13-17 {read}

I want to share some Mistake we can find so easy to make as we view the text.

But before we go there lets take a look at verses 1-10 of chapter 4 first,

James is giving a warning about being a friend to the world and how it will make you an enemy of God. And gives a pled to summit ourselves unto God and draw nigh unto him.

Now as we look in to verses 13-17 LETS LOOK AT SOME MISTAKE WE CAN LEARN FROM.

#1 MISTAKE... Verse #13

Making Plans without God. James was not faulting them for making Plans.

It was a good plan.

Lets look at it a bit closer.

We will go to such a city. One could think that they were looking at a map. The word continues there "assumes" nothing will interrupt their plans

The "word" Get gain there reveals their Goal.

It was not the plan that James is talking about but the way they planed it.

#2 MISTAKE... verse #14

They failed to "comprehend the uncertainty of life.

They give no "Thought" of what could happen. For what is your Life? It is even a vapor.

1 chronicles 29:15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as we all our fathers, our days on earth are as shadow and there is none abiding.

Job 8:9 For we are but of yesterday and know nothing Because our days upon earth are but a shadow.

Ps.102: 3 for my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as a hearth.

Ps.102: 11 I am withered like grass.

And the list goes on. Our Time here is very short, and we do not know what the tomorrow will bring so that why we need to give thought of Tomorrow.

In Luke 12:19 God call the man a fool for he give no thought of what Torromow would bring.

Proverbs 27:1 says boast not thyself of tomorrow. For thy knowest not what a day may bring fourth.

Story

My Dad went to church one Sunday morning and was a picture of health at 205 pounds, was sitting there on the front pew and all of sudden he had what they thought was a stroke, He was taken to the hosp. and all kinds of test was done and came back with cancer in his lungs, It was a sad time for us then, But my dad was a great man of faith. He talked very open about things. He said to me one day before he got so sick with it. Son, you know I thought I was in perfect health. And from one day to the next my life changed just that quickly. He went on to say, that you know, when you have been here on this earth for 67 years and it comes near the end for you, It really does seem like you have only been here for just a little while. He went on to say the bible says we are like a flower or grass. Up today and whether away the next. You need to give thought of that each day you live and do all you can for God.
