Summary: The sermon is how Joshua man-ed up when he had to become the leader after Moses died. On this fathers day men need to man up.

Joshua 1:1-8 "ManUp"

It doesn't matter who my father was; it matters who I remember he was. -- Anne Sexton

When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years. -- Mark Twain

I watched a small man with thick calluses on both hands work 15 and 16 hours a day. I saw him once literally bleed from the bottoms of his feet, a man who came here uneducated, alone, unable to speak the language, who taught me all I needed to know about faith and hard work by the simple eloquence of his example.

-- Mario Cuomo, former governor of New York

"Father's, like mothers, are not born. Men grow into fathers -- and fathering is a very important stage in their development. - David M. Gottesman

Fathers do grow into Fathers the common language today for that is "Man Up Fathers you are needed"

1. To man Up Means one will say, "I have to take care of it" Lord here I am send me.

Joshua knew God wanted him to do it not someone else it Is my responsibility

, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' aide: 2"Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready

to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them--to the Israelites

2. To Man UP means one will "Trust God" with His Life

. 5No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

3. To Man Up Means "Where He Leads I will Follow”

6"Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. 7Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. He Leads Joshua to the land of milk and honey

4. To Man Up Means "The Book is my Treasure" In it is prosperity and success

. 8Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Saint Jerome said, "The value of the Book is as a lake, where one may stay on the surface or choose to explore the infinite depths of truth contained with in it."

5. To Man up means "Fear Not God is my Rock"

. 9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

6. To Man Up Means "I gotta Get Ready"

10So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: 11"Go through the camp and tell the people, `Get your supplies ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving you for your own.' "

7. Joshua Manned up by saying, "I will take Responsibility for My House"

"If I do it they will do it"

Joshua 24:14"Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD”
