Meeting Your Family’s Needs—John 19:23-28

Jesus ensured that His mother had adequate provision.

We must provide for those under our watchcare.

How are we to meet our family’s needs?

Keys to Meeting Family Needs

26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, & the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He *said to His mother, "Woman, behold, your son!"

27 Then He *said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her into his own household.”

A Responsibility Position

Explanation:

“When Jesus therefore saw His mother, & the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He *said to His mother, "Woman, behold, your son!"”

1st born—Responsible for meeting His mother’s need.

Assumed Personal Responsibility for His mother.

Being charged with responsibility won’t guarantee Acceptance of that responsibility!

Explanation:

Joseph obviously dead

No other son was meeting her needs

Jesus had continued to meet her needs during His earthly ministry(He didn’t drop out of the world to meet them)

Physical— “the disciple took her into his own household”

Spiritual— “The disciple”—John the writer of John; 1-2-3 John; Revelation; “The disciple whom He[Jesus] loved”

A Transferal Position

Explanation:Nurture/Ministry

“He *said to His mother, "Woman, behold, your son!"”

“Then He said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!"”

“Son”—Blood kinship/Family ties doubled

“Disciple”—Follower of the Savior of mankind

Provided/Supplied a ‘like’ relationship—Love/Concern/Care

True Adequate Provision!

Argumentation:

?Why are nursing homes so difficult for families?

No relationship duplication!

5—Jesus Met Family needs from

An Authority Position

Explanation:Authority to Meet Needs

“And from that hour the disciple took her into his own household.”

Authority to meet His mother’s need.

—Authority permitted/recognized by both Mary & John

If Authority is lacking, the need can’t be met.

If help isn’t accepted by either party then it can’t be fulfilled!

A Decisive Position
