Mirror, Mirror, on the…Tree?

It has been said, someone who says it can’t be done, should never get in the way of someone doing it. And though this classic proverb has been known by all for ages, it was the driving force behind the Tham & Videgard Construction Company’s motive as they completed what those in the industry said was impossible. This Swedish company was able to successfully build invisible homes. Well, sort of.

Forty miles south of the Arctic Circle in Sweden, this team of contractors have completed the creation of several invisible tree forts have the entire exterior covered in mirrored glass, giving it a forestry look of its nearby surroundings. Honestly, from a certain angle, it can’t even be seen. The surprisingly spacious interior is adorned with harvested wood, has an electric radiant floor, and even an eco-friendly toilet (though to me the words eco-friendly and toilet seem to be an oxymoron). Creators say “this is an untouched forest, and we want to maintain it the same way. We decided, for example, to not offer snowmobile safari which is very common up here. Instead, wilderness walks will be offered.” For $566 a night, a couple can climb 18 feet up a tree and slumber under the aura of invisibility and disappear for the evening. At least until a bird smashes into the side.

The Bible says a lot about homes, more importantly, the foundations of them. Jesus states in Matthew 7, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the flood came, and the winds beat against that house, but it did not collapse because it had been founded on rock. Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the flood came, and the winds beat against that house, and it collapsed; it was utterly destroyed!”

To put it another way, even more important than the design of the home, is the ground that the home sits on. Do you know anyone who has their home in a flood plain? Or do you know of any builder that forgot to mention that the subdivision was formerly a swamp. I found out just weeks ago that there is an underground cavern of water that flows through my neighborhood, as the man with the two story house across the street explained his sump pump hasn’t stopped in over five years!

Friends, isn’t it time that we built the correct foundation for our lives? My heart hurts as I hear story after story of tragedy after tragedy, that all could have been avoided if someone had just applied some Biblical principles to their argument or to their work scenario, or to someone they love very dearly. But instead, the problem becomes simply a muddy mess. Don’t let that happen to you anymore. Give it all over to Jesus, do it and you’ll never regret that you did.
