More than Enough

The conclusion of a prayer that the Apostle Paul prays for the people of Ephesus is powerful. He prays (Ephesians 3:20-21 NIV) "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, {21} to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

An attribute of God is that He is able to do more than enough; more than we ask and more than we can imagine. And it is all according to His power that is working in us!

Jesus walked this earth revealing God to us. Many times Jesus showed us that God is able to do more than enough.

SAVING THE BEST TO LAST

John 2:1-11 tells us about Jesus’ first miracle. He was at a wedding in Cana and the host ran out of wine. Jesus’ mother, faith believing, brought the need to Jesus and left it with Him. She told the servants to do whatever Jesus asked. As the servant obeyed the tasks that Jesus gave them of filling six 20-30 gallon water pots that people had washed their feet in, drawing a cup and taking it to the host, He performed the supernatural and the water was turned to wine. But it was not ordinary wine. It was the best of wine. (John 2:9-10 NIV) "and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside {10} and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."" God is able to do more than enough; more than we ask and more than we can imagine.

TWELVE BASKETS OF LEFTOVERS

John 6:1-13 tells us about Jesus feeding approximately 15 to 20 thousand people. Verse 10 states that there was 5,000 men not counting the women and the children so in all reality there were 15 t0 20 thousand people. That’s a big crowd. They were following Jesus because of the miraculous signs. Jesus taught them and fed them spiritually. He did not want to send them away physically hungry and moved with compassion He took a boys lunch that consisted of five pieces of bread and two fish, prayed over it and passed it out. Not only did it feed all of the people, but there were leftovers. (John 6:12-13 NIV) "When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted." {13} So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten." Again we see that God is able to do more than enough; more than we ask and more than we can imagine.

A MIRACULOUS FISHING TRIP

John 21:1-11 tells about a miraculous fishing trip. After the resurrection, Peter and crew decide to go fishing. They fish all night and catch nothing. I’ve been there and done that! Early in the morning our resurrected Lord standing on the shore tells them to put their nets on the right side of the boat. They obeyed and caught 153 large fish. Once again we see that God is able to do more than enough; more than we ask and more than we can imagine.

POWER SOURCE

Pay particular attention to the source of the power that is working in you. Paul says (Ephesians 3:20-21 NIV) "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, {21} to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

The Holy Spirit is the source of the power that accomplishes more than enough; more than we ask and more than we can imagine. This power is at work in the follower of Christ. And this power is at work in the New Testament Church. The result of this working of the Holy Spirit in the individual and in the New Testament Church is glory given to God; glory given throughout all time and eternity, both now and forever by those that the power is working in.
