Summary: In John Ortberg’s, Love Beyond Reason, he refers to our questioning the journey and missing out on the trip. We’d do better if we let "Jesus Take the Wheel."

Jesus and “Time Travel”

He moved backward...so He could get to where we are. We move forward...so we can be where He is.

John 1:1-14

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.

3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that

gives light to every man was coming into the world.

10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to

become children of God—13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus and Sacrifice

Long before the Cross, He gave up...

Order to get Chaos

Had there been a morning in heaven that He didn’t paint the sunrise? Or an evening where He didn’t place the stars?

Praise in exchange for Suspicion

Had there been a day in heaven when his character wasn’t admired? Had there been a moment His worth was questioned?

Adoration for Accusation

Had there been a breath that didn’t come from Him? Had there been a flower that didn’t follow His light?

Worship for Doubt

Hadn’t the earth begun with a Word? Hadn’t His birth begun with a song? Hadn’t His worth been known all along?

Then, He gave up Himself for us.

Jesus Take the Wheel

Get out of the driver’s seat

Jesus is not your co-pilot

Trust the directions

don’t google...follow

Limit your rest stops

increase your service stops

Invite others to go with us

don’t ever make the trip alone

Remember your destination

keep your eye on the prize

Stop asking “Are we there yet?”

believe me, you’ll know!

Jesus, Take the Wheel (James/Lindsey/Sampson)

She was drivin’ last Friday on her way to Cincinnati On a snow white Christmas Eve

Goin’ home to see her Mama and her Daddy

With the baby in the back seat

Fifty miles to go and she was runnin’ low

On faith and gasoline

It’d been a long hard year

She had a lot on her mind and she didn’t pay attention

She was goin’ way too fast

Before she knew it she was on a thin black sheet of glass

She saw both their lives flash before her eyes

She didn’t even have time to cry

She was so scared, she threw her hands up in the air

(Chorus)

Jesus take the wheel

Take it from my hands

’Cause I can’t do this on my own I’m letting go

So give me one more chance

Save me from this road I’m on

Jesus take the wheel

It was still getting colder when she made it to the shoulder and the car came to a stop

She cried when she saw that baby in the back seat sleepin’ like a rock

And for the first time in a long time she bowed her head to pray

She said I’m sorry for the way

I’ve been livin’ my life

I know I’ve got to change

So from now on tonight
