The Lord is my shepherd –

Jehovah Ra’ah (shepherd) “The Lord my Sheperd”

Ra’ah – To pasture, tend, graze, feed.To see, consider, discern, gaze look on. Jehovah Ro’I (Ro’I is not the correct translation): “The Lord my Shepherd.” Portrays the Lord as the Shepherd who cares for His people as a shepherd cares for the sheep of his pasture (Ps. 23:1).

I shall not want –

Jehovah Jireh (provider) “The Lord my provider.” Stresses God’s provision for His people (Gen. 22:14).

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures –

Jehovah Raphad (to prepare a bed)“The Lord who prepares my resting place”. One aspect of a shepherd is to provide a safe place of rest. Raphad – a primitive root; to spread (a bed); by implication, to refresh: --comfort, make [a bed], spread.

He leadeth me beside the still waters. –

Jehovah Nahal (lead gently on)

“The Lord who leads me gently” Nahal – a primitive root; properly, to run with a sparkle, i.e. flow; hence (transitively), to conduct, and (by inference) to protect, sustain: --carry, feed, guide, lead (gently, on).

He restoreth my soul –

Jehovah Shalam (restorer) “The Lord my Restorer”

Shalam – (Hebrew) a primitive root meaning - to be safe in (mind, body, or estate); figuratively to be or make completed; by implication to be friendly; by extension to reciprocate; make amends, (make an) end; finish; full; give again; make good; repay; (make) (to) (be at) Peace; that is perfect, perform, make prosper (-ious), recompense, render, requite, make restitution , restore, reward.

He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. –

Jehovah Tsidkenu (Righteousness). “The Lord my Righteousness.” Portrays the Lord as the means of our righteousness

(Jer. 23:6)

Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil –

Jehovah Sabbaoth (Lord of Host) “The Lord of Hosts.” A military figure portraying the Lord as the commander of the armies of heaven (1 Sam. 1:3; 17:45). Jehovah Shalom (Peace) “The Lord is Peace.” Points to the Lord as the means of our peace and rest (Jud. 6:24).

For thou art with me –

Jehovah Shammah (Lord who is there) “The Lord is there.” Portrays the Lord’s personal presence (Ezek. 48:35).

Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. –

El-Ohim (God, Judge, Creator) shows God’s power and authority to rule and judge. The rod represents Judgment and the staff represents power and authority to rule

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies –

Jehovah Nissi ( refuge or Banner) “The Lord is my Banner.” Stresses that God is our rallying point and our means of victory; the one who fights for His people (Ex. 17:15).

Thou anointest my head with oil –

Jehovah Maccaddesh or Maccaddesheem (Sanctifies): “The Lord my Sanctifier.” Portrays the Lord as our means of sanctification; or as the one who sets believers apart for His purposes (Ex. 31:13).

My cup runneth over. –

Jehovah Revawyaw “Lord who makes me wealth”, (to prosper) Portrays the Lord not just providing for our needs but provides much more than we need.

Surely goodness and lovingkindness shall follow me all the days of my life

And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Jehovah (the eternal self existent one)
