Judging is the easiest thing to do. Everyone discerns and judges situations and people constantly. Most things are judged by the outward and not the inward motivations or heart. I remember once after a long road-trip through Texas I forgot to drink enough water and when I arrived at a brothers home to stay the night my throat was parched. There was a visitor there which at first glance I assumed was possibly a seeker who my friend was sharing the gospel with. After a few words of introduction I largely ignored this man with his black jacket and black sunglasses and long hair. After a period of time I thought I better talk with him and after a few words my voice gave out! Then he began to talk and I found out very quickly he was a very fervent evangelist who loves the Lord greatly and has been used of Him. I was very humbled and will never forget the experience, to this day he is a friend in the Lord and I am still challenged by his walk with the Lord.
Have you ever judged a book by its cover alone? Or judged someone by their appearance? I am sure we all have. Paul the Apostle takes these thoughts further that he does not feel right to judge even other workers of the gospel in their motivations instead he wisely leaves them to the Lord. It is so easy to see problems with other workers in the gospel and pass judgement on them, even defaming their name before thousands. Paul knew this would damage the work of the Lord so he would not even attempt to judge peoples hearts. We all have sinned as believers and even the most godly leader makes great mistakes. The encouraging news is that the Lord is never finished with any of us that remain humble, repent and continue to seek the Lord in relationship. Judge nothing seems too radical but it is the way of godliness, and follows the example of our Lord who said his words will judge everyone in that last day.
