Summary: We need some OBADIAHs’ during this present time of crisis to serve the Lord, even from the enemy’s camp.

OBADIAH - One good man

1 Kings 18: 4”Obadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifties in a cave, and provided them with bread and water.”

Let me first tell you about Obadiah: he was the palace administrator and also a God-fearing, devout believer in the LORD. At the same time, you must also know about king Ahab, he was a brutal, wicked, disobedient, rebellious king who made the nation practice idol worship. There was terrible famine in the land because of the sins of the nation, we should examine our life when we go through tremendous trials in our life and check for disobedience. It was during this period of extreme famine when there was no water for even the animals that Obadiah hid 100 prophets in a cave and fed them with bread and water. Don’t point fingers at the corruption and sins around you, be the one to pitch in to save them like Obadiah. One good man in a dark place/ palace was standing bold for God!

This might seem something normal for you, but consider the situation, king Ahab himself went through the land to all the springs of water and to all the valleys; to find grass and keep the horses and mules alive, and not have to kill some of the cattle." 1 King 18:5 It is now that Obadiah manages to sneak in some water and bread for 100 prophets of God. Hallelujah! He was doing something highly risky that might cost his head; however, Obadiah was a ‘DOER’ and not a mere ‘HEARER’, since he was in a powerful position, he was doing all he can to save God’s prophets. He was afraid of the king but he feared God more! Anybody listening?

We need some OBADIAHs’ during this present time of crisis to serve the Lord, even from the enemy’s camp. Well, while Obadiah was going in search of water, he suddenly encounters prophet Elijah on the way, now how did Elijah manage to survive in the draught and famine? God kept him alive not because he was more special than the 100 in the cave, but because he had work to do outside. Likewise, we are alive not because we are more righteous but because we have work to do on the earth. You don’t need special talents to serve God, God is looking for a bold, willing heart. Are you ready?
