Open the door to the Local Church

Grant van Boeschoten

June 3, 2007

What you believe about Church determines many things about how you live your life. I believe that Jesus entrusted the Church with his mandate, to bring the message of Salvation to all of the earth. To continue the work that he started.

Jesus lived and died so that man could have relationship with God. His life makes it possible to be forgiven of sin. But his message is carried now by the church.

More than that, the Church is the Unified Body of Christ, responsible and accountable to God Almighty for our every action.

The church operates on a level that is supernatural, because it is not built on human strength, but on the Divine Person of Jesus Christ.

What you believe about the Church determines how you will connect with God and how you manage your life.

What do you believe about Church?

Do you believe that Jesus is the divine Son of God?

Do you believe that the name of Jesus is the only name under heaven and earth by which we must be saved?

Do you believe that God alone has the power to change, transform and save lives?

Do you believe that God would trust man to be a part of his plan to extend salvation to all corners of the earth?

Do you believe that God assembled, called out and equipped a unified group of believers in a powerful body called the Church through which he intends to operate?

If so, you must believe that the Local Church is in the forefront of God’s mind.

You must believe that Church is essential in the life of all who call on the name of Jesus.

What do you believe about the Local Church? I believe that the Local Church is ordained and anointed by God to be the most important, strategic, group of people on the planet earth.

What do you believe?

If we go to the book of Revelation we find some extremely important principles for Church. In Revelation 2 & 3 Jesus sends letters to 7 different churches. Contained in these letters are truths from the mouth of God. They are truths that will remain throughout eternity.

Open the Door to God’s Love

2.4 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. 5Remember then from what you have fallen; repent, and do the works that you did at first.

• First love. Love is supposed to grow but there are things we do that diminish instead of growing our love. Go back to the beginning and find out why you found God in the first place.

• Remember his mercy.

• Retell the stories of victories in your life.

• Relive times when God showed you his face.

• Recover your first love for God.

TRANSITION ILLUSTRATION - Worst Slurpee EVER (Popcorn, Banff Alberta, Summer of 2000, I SPAT IT OUT OF MY MOUTH, I could not bear to have it in there for one more second.

3.15 I know your works; you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were either cold or hot. 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

• God hates lukewarm!

• He hates half-worship

• He hates half-effort in service

• He hates half-hearts that serve the self as much as they serve God.
