Title: Passing the Anointing

Text: 2 Kings 18:17 -

Theme:

Introduction

This was the end of the ministry of two of the greatest prophets of the Old Testament. Between them there were 42 miracles worked. It is amazing to think how God used them to bring forth miracles in a land that was doing everything they could to get away from God. These were prophets of Israel but not as we think. By this time Israel had formed two nations. The southern and the northern. They had split under the regin of King Rehaboam the son of Solomon. Now they were two nations. The northern nation was called Israel (18 Kings) and it was evil. Out of the many kings that would reign. Southern kingdom was called Judah (20 Kings) some evil some good.

Double portion Elijah performed 14 miracles and Elisha performed 28 miracles

Two Major Miracles

Meeting on Mt Carmel 1 Kings 18:17 - 46

Principles of the Story

God is the God who answers by fire. John promise of one who would come that would baptize in the Holy Spirit and fire. Too hot to handle

When your heart is right you can put God to the test.

Healing of Naman the leper 2 Kings 5:1-14

Principles of the Story

Namaan had everything but one blemish leperacy. Leperacy is also compared to sin. As it spreads and goes deeper than skin

Namaan had to take a step ( a dip) of faith to receive what God had for him. He had to do more than just say it but it became action. He had to move in it.

Discuss Elijah’s death: Chariot of Fire, Elisha waiting

Discuss Elisha’s death

Read

2 Kings 13:20-21 Then Elisha died, and they buried him. And the raiding bands from Moab invaded the land in the spring of the year. (21) So it was, as they were burying a man, that suddenly they spied a band of raiders; and they put the man in the tomb of Elisha; and when the man was let down and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.

Why was the anointing in Elisha’s bones.

It was passed down from Elijah to Elisha yet we see it here after the death of Elisha. Now I may be picking at straws but I tell you this got me to thinking. I don’t want to die with what is inside of me still inside of me.

I don’t want to keep it for myself. There is a whole generation that is coming up that needs to hear what we have been through. They need to here our experiences.

Yes they need to here that we serve the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But they need to hear how he became our God how he saved us, how he healed us, how he filled us with the Holy Ghost.

Conclusion

What are we going to do with generation? Hide and hope WE are happy or give to them what they need for the future.

Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear the word of the LORD: 17 ’Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and what your fathers have accumulated until this day, shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left,’ says the LORD. 18 ’And they shall take away some of your sons who will descend from you, whom you will beget; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’" 19 So Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The word of the LORD which you have spoken is good!" For he said, "Will there not be peace and truth at least in my days?"

2 Kings 20:19 MSG Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "If GOD says it, it must be good." But he was thinking to himself, "It won’t happen during my lifetime--I’ll enjoy peace and security as long as I live."

Psalms 127:1-5 Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. (2) It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep. (3) Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. (4) Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. (5) Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.

How to pass on the heritage/anointing/testimony

Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5 "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 "You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 "You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
