“LIVING A HOLY LIFE”

1 Pe 1:13-16 “13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

INTRO:

I. PREPARING YOURSELVES

A. “Prepare your minds….”

1. Rom 12:2 “2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Do not conform to the patterns of this world

2. Be transformed

B. “…for action”

1. 2 Cor. 10:5 “4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”

C. “Be Self-Controlled”

1. Titus 1:8 “8 Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.”

D. “Set your hope fully on the grace”

1. Knowing that this is directly from heaven

1. Samson forgot it was from God and he lost it

II. NOT LIVING A FORMER LIFE BUT A PRESENT ONE

A. We are not the same as yesterday

1. The Example of St. Augustine

B. We are not living as an ignorant

1. We know the consequences of sin

2. The law of “Sow you will reap”

1. Gal 6:7 “7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

3. We cannot hide our lifestyle from God

C. Our evil desire will produce death

1. Gal 6:8 “8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

III. LIVING A HOLY LIFE

A. Be Holy

1. Separated from the world and separated for God

B. We live a life that understand that we are just passing through this world

1. 1 Peter 2:11 “11 Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.”

C. We don’t live a holy life with the goal to have treasures in this World

1. Mat 6:21 “21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

D. We live a life pleasing to God
