Summary: A two verse study of the importance of reaching out and touching Jesus

Touching Jesus is all that Matters:

1John 1:1-2

Introduction:

Paul’s ministry was to complete the divine revelation of God’s New Testament resources. Read (Col. 1:25-27)

That is, the trinity of the Godhead manifested in Christ, that the trinity may have a full expression of the fullness of God. Read (Eph. 1:23, 3:19)

Paul completed his writings around 67 A.D. Then after a quarter of a century, around 90 A.D. John’s writings came forth.

John was to try to complete that work was started, the entire divine revelation of both the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Read 1John 1:1-10 outline is on just verse 1&2

Vv1 That which was from the beginning……

This is different from John 1:1 “in the beginning”. This is a trace back to eternity

past, before creation.

In 1 John 1:1 it is “from the beginning” which is from creation forward.

In St. John he revealed to us how to receive eternal life (to believe on the

Son)

In Little John he points to the way for the believers, to enjoy that eternal life with

fellowship in the trinity and in the church.

Which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked

upon, and our hands have handled of the Word of life.

Here the word is the divine person Jesus Christ. It is a definition and an expression

of all that God is.

In Him (Jesus Christ) is life and he is life itself.

The phrase “word of life” in the Greek it indicates that the Word is life.

John is saying with absolute certainty of the reality of what he is proclaiming.

We have actually heard, actually seen, actually touched Him, not just in passing, but

frequently we had fellowship with Him. We lived with Him, heard His teachings

and seen His divine and wonderful works. We have first hand knowledge!

Vv2 For the life was manifested…..

The purpose of the Word being flesh and dwelling among us is…

…that they (the world) would have undeniable proof that Christ did and still

does live!

For we have seen Him, and bear witness and show unto you eternal life….

Job 19:25-27 says. For I know that my redeemer liveth and that he shall stand at the

latter day upon the earth. And though after my skin worm destroy this body, yet in

my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold,

and not another: though my reins be consumed within me.

Luke 2:22-33 read

Which was with the Father…

The Greek meaning for the word “with” is… “living and acting in union with th

Father of eternity”.

The eternal life, which is in the Son, not only was with the Father.

John is saying that He is here also with us, and we are living with Him in unity.

I want you know that the Father is the very source of eternal life, through the Son.

Verse three (3) says our fellowship is with the Father and Son.

Which is made manifest unto us…..

The reason that Christ was manifest for or to us is….

….that we can have fellowship with him.

2 Peter 1:16-18

For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you

the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his

majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came

such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am

well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with

him in the holy mount.

Acts 5:29-32

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather

than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a

tree. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to

give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. And we are his witnesses of these

things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Conclusion

My friends, now more then ever we must realize that Jesus is here with us, and we

need to be like our dear brother Jon, reach out and touch Him.
