Jesus’ Heart Goes Out to You

In Luke chapter 7 of God’s Word we are told of a woman that is going through the worst affliction of her life. She is a widow and her only son has just died. (Luke 7:11-15 NIV) "Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. {12} As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out--the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. {13} When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, "Don’t cry." {14} Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!" {15} The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother." Jesus was moved by this widow’s affliction and His heart went out to her.
Please know that Jesus is moved by your afflictions. Jesus’ heart goes out to you. Jesus hears your cries and it moves Him.
JESUS SEES WHAT IS TROUBLING YOU.
This lady in a town called Nain is a good lady. Nothing she has done has brought this terrible trouble to her. It’s the greatest affliction of her life. It was bad when her husband died, but now her only son dies. Not only is there the sorrow of losing loved ones so close to her, but now who would take care of her. In Jesus’ day there was not government to fall back on for help and the religionists provided no help to widows. The custom was for the son to take the mother in and care for her. Not only was this lady under tremendous grief of losing her son, but now she had no one to turn to for help. You can imagine the awful questions of doubt and the insecurity that the devil was filling her mind with. When Jesus saw her and the trouble this affliction was bringing on her, “His heart went out to her.”
Please know today that Jesus sees what is troubling you. Your trouble does not go unnoticed by our Lord. The devil wants you to focus on your affliction and lose sight of Jesus. Doubting questions will fill your mind to the point where you will question if Jesus even cares for you unless you guard your mind with the helmet of salvation (Ephesians 6:10-18). Do not fall for the wiles of the devil. Know that Jesus sees what is troubling you and His heart goes out to you.
JESUS CHANGES HOPELESS SITUATIONS.
This widow’s situation was seemingly hopeless. Her husband and now her son were dead. What would she do? Where would she turn for help? Her situation and her cries moved the heart of Jesus and He touched her hopelessness and spoke a Word and change came. Life came to that which was dead.
What seems hopeless in your life? What are your afflictions? What are you crying out for? Know that Jesus’ heart is moved. Jesus will bring His presence and His Word to you and will change your hopeless situation. You see, all you need to get through anything that comes your way is Jesus’ presence and His Word. Jesus’ presence and His Word will comfort you, strengthen you, build faith in you, destroy hopelessness and bring life to that which is dead.
Beloved, this miracle that the Widow at Nain experienced teaches us as followers of Jesus. It gives us great insight. May we long for the presence of Jesus in our life. May we hunger for the Word of God to the point that we desire it more than food for our physical body. May we always realize that we can not live by bread alone, but by every Word that comes from the mouth of God. Jesus is the Bread of Life. May we pray continually that God gives us daily the presence of Jesus Christ in our life. With Jesus’ presence and His Word, we will overcome all afflictions and hopeless situations will change. Praise be to Jesus!
