Summary: A message for the model Mother in the Scriptures

A Message for the Mothers

Matthew 15:4

INTRO: Today is obviously Mothers Day*.I am not a Holiday Preacher nor a Newspaper headline Preacher, however with all the new people coming and the desire and need to start a series on the home in the next few services I wanted to Preach this morning on one of the most important people in the Church*.Mom.

I don’t want to hobby-horse the Paris Hilton thing but I was absolutely amazed at the attitude of the Mother concerning her daughter. I feel Miss Paris has some major issues but to be perfectly honest Momma was the molder of the person we now see in the media. Someone well said one time behind every great man is a great Momma.

The best Churches I have ever been in have had great woman in the Church. The best homes I have ever been in had a great Mom.

She is by far very much needed today yet she is so hard to find.

One of the main reasons she is so hard to find is because people have turn to different means in the developing process of this Woman.

TV, Hollywood, Cosmopolitan, and so many other things have influenced the young girls of this world and developed them into what we have today instead of going to Gods manual to find the blueprint for the Magnificent Mom. (Introduction by Mike Lovett)

1. A good Mother is a Christian Mother.

Ephesians 4:1 I therefore a prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation (calling) wherewith ye are called. The word ‘vocation’ means calling.

*** Her (calling) is 1st to be the Lord’s

*** 2nd to be faithful in her (calling) of being saved***

*A personal faith in Christ brings everlasting life....

John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

2. A good Mother loves and leads her Children in the way of the Lord.

* A Path reveled by the Lord....

Psalms 16:11 Thou will show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy.

*A Path that is lighted by the Word....

Psalms 119:105 The Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

*A Path in the way of righteousness...

Psalms 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

*She loves them because they are a heritage of the Lord....

Psalms 127:3 Lo children are a (heritage) of the Lord. And the fruit of the womb is his reward.

***heritage means ’something handed down’

3. A good Mother has praise for the Lord.

* She praises the Lord with thanksgivings... For what? For Everything!

Psalms 147:7 Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving;

* She praises him from the depths of her heart....

Psalms 9:1-2 I will praise thee, O Lord with my whole heart; I will show forth all thy marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

*Did you ever know a mother that did not sing?

* She praises him regularly....

Psalms 35:28 And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of they praise all the day long.

* Her faith is in the Message.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.

* Her faith and prayers are for the Ministry and ministers....

The Mother Every Child Needs – By Charles Stanley

No perfect model of motherhood exists. Children have different temperaments and personalities, and it takes all kinds of mothers to raise them well. But as different as kids are, they do have some common needs.

First, every child needs a mother who wants her children. Nothing is more devastating to a youngster than to grow up feeling unwanted or unloved. A broken connection with Mom can haunt a child throughout life. This may hinder relationships with Jesus Christ, friends, and spouses. As a future adult, that child may struggle with a suspicion that he or she is unlovable.

Second, every child needs a mother who cares for her children. To be healthy and stable adults, kids need a mom who invests in their body, mind, and spirit. Busy parents too often substitute material things for emotional and spiritual support. Buying the latest fashionable clothes may meet a desire. But talking and listening to understand a child’s feelings meets the needs of the heart.

Third, every child needs a mother who surrenders her children to God. From an early age, boys and girls should understand they belong to the Lord. Whatever God calls them to do, Mom needs to support His plan with love for them and faith in Him. In 1 Samuel 1:28, we learn children are a gift that parents should return to the Giver’s service, just as Hannah did with her son Samuel.

Mothers aren’t perfect. But God is. Through Him, a mom can fulfill her calling to want, protect, and surrender her children, no matter how old they are.

Are you this woman?

You can be, simply by asking Christ, and Christ alone to come into your heart and take control of your life.

He and He alone can change our hearts to model his ways.

For the Cause.
