How has the Messiah proven to be Mighty God?

Pastor Spurgeon is quoted:

This Child born, this Son given, came into the world to enter the lists against sin. For thirty years and upwards He had to struggle against temptations more numerous and terrible than man had ever known before. And yet, without sin or taint of sin, more than conqueror He stood. We know also that Christ proved Himself to be "the mighty God" from the fact that at last all the sins of all His people were gathered upon His shoulders, and "He bare them in His own body on the tree." But He did more than this -- when He led captivity captive, add crushed death and ground his iron limbs to powder, He proved Himself then the mighty God. Oh, my soul, thou canst say that He has proved Himself in thy heart to be a mighty God. I beg and beseech of you all, come add put your trust in Jesus Christ; He is the mighty God.

• He has conquered sin, Satan, and the world – what more can we ask?

How can we see the might of God in our lives today?

1. A Mighty God has come to give you His strength to move mountains in your life!

a. Mountains: anything that comes in between you and the Great Commission and the Great Commandment of Jesus Christ

i. Examples: Lack of Faith, Lack of Prayer, Lack of Study, Gossiping or Listening to Gossip, Disobedience, Selfishness, Unforgiveness, Lying, Finances, Unemployment, Illness, Death, and even Christmas.

Isaiah 11:1-5 (NASB)

Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. Abd He will delight in the fear of the Lord, And He will not judge by what His eyes see, Nor make a decision by what His ears hear; But with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth; And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the brath of His lips He will slay the wicked. Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins, And faithfulness the belt about His waist.

This is sure power – all of it in our Mighty God, the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Do you want to have the greatest Christmas you’ve ever had? Give you all to the Mighty God. Allow Him to give you the strength to remove the mountains that are hindering you from being all that you can be for Him.

2. A Mighty God has come to show the world He has no limitations!

a. Mark 5:21-43

i. Story of a desperate father names Jairus and his dying 12 yr. old daughter. On the way to the home, everything goes wrong – they are told that she has already died – Jesus said – just believe, keep going. When they get there, it is a crazy scene, people weeping, screaming, etc. Jesus said, she’s not dead, she’s just sleeping.

ii. We know the ending, the girl is brought back to life by the Mighty God.

Our lives are filled with limitations and roadblocks. Everywhere we look, someone has erected a boundary that we dare not cross over:

- Medically speaking, this can’t get any better

- Financially speaking, you can’t do this

- This thing you dream of cannot happen with you resources

Jesus, the Mighty God, knows nothing of limitations! He crosses every barrier, breaks through walls and nothing hinders Him from accomplishing His goals!

He is the mighty God who transcends time, space, hearts, money, obstacles, the economy, the doctors, the paycheck, the government, the courts—ALL THINGS!!

3. A Mighty God has come to show the world that He cannot be held by our rules!

a. Acts 3:13-15

i. They conspired to kill Jesus, killed Him on the cross

ii. Jesus defied their plans, turned their plans upside down and created a plan of His own.

iii. RESURRECTION POWER

1. Taking the most difficult thing and doing something amazing with it

Reversing the irreversible

Fixing the unfixable

Doing the undoable

Beating the unbeatable

Saving the unsavable

Changing the unchangeable

---AND YOU WOULD BE TALKING ABOUT A MIGHTY GOD!

Nothing could hold Jesus, not even death and a rock rolled on top of his grave!

He is in control – we are not!

4. A Mighty God has come to show that He Owns Satan!

a. Luke 11:20-22

i. Satan is big, bad, and tough until someone shows up with more muscle.

ii. Satan threw His best shots at Jesus, but could never win:

He threw disease at Jesus…”by my strips you are healed”

He threw temptation…”not my will but my fathers will be done”

He threw fame…”you will worship God alone…”

He threw demon possessed…he said, “get out.”

He threw the depressed and hopeless and the addicted…”you are whole”

He threw hatred…”father forgive them…”

He threw messed up religion…I will build my church

He threw political muscle…”the government is upon my shoulder…”

He threw false accusations Against his character…”You’ll see, on the 3rd day…”

He threw storms…”peace be still”

He even threw death…”Lazarus, come forth…”

We serve a mighty God! He beat them all…

Jesus is the over comer. That means whatever Satan may have Jesus has more!

a. Death is turned into a doorway!

b. 1 Corinthians 15:54-57

There is a bee buzzing around the room, but we have no need to fear, the stinger has been removed. He may be a pest, be he cannot hurt you!
