First Baptist Riverton

Introduction

Today have gathered here in this place to celebrate Mother’s Day and honor our mothers present and past.

Mothers play a key part in the lives of all of us!

Without mothers, we would not be here.

Without mothers, we would not know to make sure we have clean underwear on in case we are in a wreck.

Without mothers, we would not that we need to wash behind our ears.

Without mothers, we would not to eat our vegetables.

Without mothers, we would not know to tie our shoes.

Without mothers, we would not the love that only a mother can give.

Stand with me this morning as we read for the Word of God. Turn with me to Psalms 127: 3-5

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

[4] As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

[5] Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:3-5

Let us Pray

Father we come to your throne this morning and we ask you to help us see how much we have been blessed to have mothers.

May your Word speak to us today and draw us closer to you; filling our hearts with a desire to serve, and a lust for faith.

May each coming day draws us closer to you and may our faith grow a little stronger each day, and may we value the blessings of having a mother.

Father may we learn from your holy scripture and may we see a difference when we apply the six principles of parental duties of, teaching, training, providing for, nurturing, controlling, and loving.

Father may the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight O’ Lord!

For I ask all these things in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

AMEN!

You may be seated!

To Teach

What shall we teach our children? The first and most important rule set by God is: You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5

Second, we need to teach them the Ten Commandments. Why should we do this you may ask? Because we want our children to have good moral lives.

We want them to live a full victorious life. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. Deuteronomy 6:7

God gave the Ten Commandments as protection for us. It is a guideline to healthy living.

To Train

The scriptures say; Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

This is probably one of the most miss quoted verse about raising children.

This verse does not say raise up a child the way you want them to go and when they are old, they will not depart from it.

It does not say raise up a child in the church and when they are old, they will not depart from it.

This verse literally means to nurture and train the talents that God has given that child, always reminding that child it is a gift from God and if they give it to God, he will bless them.

Find that child’s talent nurtures it, no matter how different it is from what you want your child to be.

God choose the destiny of the child, not you.

Use scriptures to teach your child, show them how God’s word works in and through the talent, that God has given that child.

Use Thomas Edison as an example.

If Thomas Edison’s mother had listened to the experts, then we would be in the dark today.

To Provide For

Now for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be burdensome to you; for I do not seek yours, but you.

For the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children. II Corinthians 12:14

3Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.

[4]Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.

5Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;

They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:3-5

To Nurture

And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4

Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. Colossians 3:21

It is not quality time children need its quantity time.

Parents do not spend enough time with their children today.

The TV, Internet, and video games, spends more time with our children than we do.

To Control

One who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence. 1 Timothy 3:4

Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 1 Timothy 3:12

Why should we be so controlling over our children?

THE BREAD OF LIFE

A famous child specialist once said: When it comes to serious illness, the child who has been taught to obey stands four times the chance for recovery than a spoiled and undisciplined child does.

Until I heard that statement I had thought that one of the Ten Commandments were for children to obey their parents, and never had it entered my mind that the learning of obedience might mean saving or losing the life of a child.

God made us.

He knows that the commands He has given us are for our own good.

That is why we must live by faith.

Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall

live; Isaiah 55:3a

To Love

That they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, Titus 2:4

For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:12

He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly. Proverbs 13:24

Invitation

As parents, are we to Teach, Train, Provide For, Nurture, Control, and to Love our children!

Are we following the six parental duties that God as call us too?

Follow God’s instructions and see the blessings of God poured out upon your children.

Give your children to the Lord, let him have control of your spirit and reap the blessings that God has for you.
