TEXT

"What is thy beloved more than another beloved, O thou fairest among women? what is thy beloved more than another beloved, that thou dost so charge us?"

INTRODUCTION

The term ’beloved’ is quite a popular one. There is a novel entitled The Beloved, written by Toni Morrison. A film was produced in 1998, based on the novel. There is also a music group with this name. But we are not interested in any of them. Our desire is to catch a glimpse of our Beloved, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is beloved to:

1. HIS FATHER

a) Because of the pleasure He imparted - Matthew 3:17, 12:18, 17:5.

b) Because of the plan He implemented - John 10:17.

c) Because of the place He immortalised - Luke 23:33.

2. HIS FOLLOWERS

a) Because He is the ground of acceptance - Ephesians 1:6.

b) Because He is the friend of sinners - Matthew 11:19.

c) Because He is the hope of glory - Colossians 1:27.

O I am my Beloved’s and my Beloved is mine!

He brings a poor vile sinner into His “house of wine”;

I stand upon His merit, I know no other stand,

Not e’en where glory dwelleth in Immanuel’s land.
