Summary: A message preached at the wedding of Ross McClay and Lynette Snodgrass on Saturday 31 May 2008.

1. THE INVITATION

"a certain king...sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding".

a) A royal invitation - "a certain king". The King of kings invites us to the marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19).

b) A repeated invitation - "Again". Only one invitation is sent out for most weddings, so this was unusual. How many times has Jesus invited you? How have you responded?

2. THE INGRATITUDE

"they would not come".

a) Ingratitude for the price paid - "my oxen and my fatlings are killed".

O teach me what it meaneth,

That cross uplifted high,

With One, the Man of Sorrows,

Condemned to bleed and die!

O teach me what it cost thee

To make a sinner whole;

And teach me, Saviour, teach me

The value of a soul!

b) Ingratitude for the effort made - "I have prepared my dinner".

3. THE INDIFFERENCE

"they made light of it".

Neglect. What do you have to do to end up in hell? Nothing.

"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?" (Hebrews 2:3)

4. THE INSPECTION

"when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment".

a) A senseless guest - no excuses because kings provided garments for everyone.

b) A speechless guest - "he was speechless".

Once again the Gospel message

From the Saviour you have heard;

Will you heed the invitation?

Will you turn and seek the Lord?

Come believing! come believing!

Come to Jesus! look and live!

Come believing! come believing!

Come to Jesus! look and live!
