Summary: This message points to seven blessings a Christian has because of Jesus

A CHRSTIAN IS BLESSED*

A CHRISTIAN IS...

COLOSSIANS 1:1-8

Christians are the most blessed people in the world because of their relationship with Jesus. One pastor said, "Who we are in Christ is far more important than where we are in life". And here is why?

1. We have an Authoritative Guide, God’s Word (1:1)

How blessed were the Colossian Christians! Although they did not know Paul personally, the apostle Paul wrote them a letter which bears the authority of God himself. This letter is an inspired and authoritative word of God for the first century Christians! it is still is God’s authoritative Word of God for us.

2. We have received grace (1:2).

Grace is God’s unmerited favor from God. It is the greatest gift we received from God. Apart from grace we would be hopeless; we would remain in our sins; we would be bound in eternity in hell.

We were saved by grace, but we also live by His grace!

3. We have received peace (1:2)

Peace is not the absence of trouble, but the result of a life that is completely surrendered to the Lord Jesus. Peace is an overflow of a life under God’s control.

Jesus said, this peace is unlike the peace offered by the world. it is peace in the midst of trouble (John 16:33)

The apostle Paul describes God’s peace as a guardian, a protector (Philippians 4:7)

4. We have a Father in heaven (1:2)

5. We have been gifted by God with faith (1:4)

The most amazing truth about faith is its being a gift given by God. We do not manufacture faith. It is given by the Holy Spirit as through God’s word. (Romans 10:17)

This faith enables us to trust God in difficult times and in good times.

6. We have been given love too! (1:5)

Love has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit (romans 5:5). it is the primary fruit of the Spirit in our lives. It is also a gift that is given only to God’s people.

7. We have hope (4c).

This hope serves as an anchor of our soul. It is based on God’s character. Hebrews 6.

The hope that we have in Christ enables us to look at evil in this world as a temporary thing. God will set everything right.

Conclusion: These blessings should:

make us grateful for what God has given us - gratitude, thanksgiving and worship

make us want to love God more deeply and want to know Him more

make us want to serve God and His church.
