Summary: Some thoughts about the preacher and his preaching...

THE PREACHER AND HIS PREACHING

ROMANS 10:1-17 W. Max Alderman

INTRODUCTION: This message is being preached to remind us of the purpose and of the value of preaching. Preaching is absolutely necessary to exercise the economy of God. Without preaching, there would be no focal point for our Theology. The purpose of preaching is to allow the Word of God to reach the hearer. Preaching directs the Truth into the membership of the church and into the hearts of the hungry. Those who hunger for the righteousness of God are satisfied by the anointed preaching of the Word that brings faith to both the unbeliever so that he can be converted and to the believer so that he can be strengthened by the preached Word. Let’s carefully consider the preacher and his preaching.

I. THE GREAT OBLIGATION TO PREACH. (2 Timothy 4:1-5)

A. The Preacher is Obligated Because of His Great Call to Preach… (2 Timothy 4:1-5)

B. The Preacher is Obligated Because of His Great Conviction to Preach… (1 Cor. 9:16, 17)

C. The Preacher is Obligated Because of His Great Commission to Preach… (Matthew 28:18-20)

D. The Preacher is Obligated Because of His Great Crown for Having Preached…

II. THE GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO PREACH.

A. The Great Opportunity to Preach a True Book…

B. The Great Opportunity to Preach a Tested Book…

C. The Great Opportunity to Preach a Terrific Book…

III. THE GREAT OPTIMISM OF PREACHING…

(an acrostic on the optimism of preaching)

“O” Only Hope for this sin cursed world (1 Cor. 9:16)

“P” Powerful Gospel (Romans 1:16)

“T” Transforming Power that comes from preaching (Colossians 1:28)

“I” Instruction that comes from preaching (2 Timothy 4:2)

“M” Ministering that comes from preaching (2 Timothy 4:2)

“I” Inspiration that comes from preaching (2 Cor. 4:5)

“S” Strengthening that comes from preaching (Col. 1:28)

“M” Maturity that comes from preaching (romans 10:8)

CONCLUSION: May we be challenged and encouraged to appreciate God ordained preaching and better understand the role that preaching plays in the church.
