Summary: I was raised in an old brick house that has survived many storms. My body is a temple where God dwells. Where God dwells is a place that has and will survive many storms.

This House Has Survived Many Storms

1 Kings 9:1-9

1 And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,

2 That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.

3 And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

4 And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:

5 Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

6 But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:

7 Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:

8 And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house?

9 And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil.

The Lord had appeared to Solomon in a dream this was the second time that He had appeared to Solomon this way.

The first time had been approximately twenty years before and that is coming from verse ten.

10. And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD, and the king’s house,

The Lord had appeared to him in 1 Kings 3:5.

5 ¶ In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

Solomon this morning has just finished building the house of the Lord, and the Kings house.

The Lord now appears to Solomon and tells him I have heard your prayer and supplication that you have made before me.

He now goes on to say that I have hallowed this house which you have built, to put my Name there for ever, and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.

God has chosen this house to Himself as a house of sacrifice, this is proclaiming the fact that the cross so to speak was the foundation of Israel’s blessing and prosperity.

1 Kings 9:4

4 And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:

David was so ever used as the example; self righteousness would have great difficulty as accepting David as such because of his many failures.

Man looks at what they see from the physical standpoint but God looks at the man from the inside out.

David knew God and he knew that His grace was sufficient to forgive him.

Man would never look at it the way that God does.

Solomon was to walk as David walked, in integrity of heart and uprightness.

He was to do all that God commanded him; he was to keep Gods statutes and Gods judgments.

God has always a God who has looked at us and sees what we can become, He knows that we have shortcomings and at times we will mess up.

God looks at why we do what we do and He will work with us from the inside out.

I Kings 9:5

5 Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

What God had spoken to Solomon and to Israel was conditional upon obedience.

This means that the path of safety pointed out by God to Solomon was obedience and attachment to the Bible.

The Word that He had and that was being spoken during the time that he was living in had to be applied.

Do we have an attachment to the Word? Do we listen to what the Bible tells me to do?

If I do then God will open up the windows of Heaven and He will pour out a blessing upon my life.

1 Kings 9:6-7

6 But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:

7 Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:

God told Solomon exactly what not to do and he did it.

A lot of times God tells us exactly what to do and we do what the Lord has forbidden in our walks of life.

Solomon started to marry women from other places with different Gods than the one he served and God was not happy with what was going on.

Solomon knew the path that he was to go but did exactly what God did not want him to do.

There would be consequences to the choices that he had made.

Ro 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lu 12:48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Solomon had received a lot and there was a lot more required out of him than others.

The same principle applies for today the more the Lord reveals the more that He expects out of us.

I have entitled this today:

This House Has Survived Many Storms and here is the reason why.

I dreamed that a room had been added to the top of the house. An individual in the house had turned into superman and had destroyed this upper room. They had hit one side of the upper room and then hit the other side of this room causing damage to the bricks. This individual had a bed in the house that was now at a place where it would get leaked on. Debra just so happened to be there and she had prepared a meal. She had poached tomatoes with vinegariette dressing. We now eat the meal. I literally remember tasting the dressing. I asked her if she knew anyone who could fix the house. You could see through the bricks. I also asked her if she knew someone who could fix the roof. I was thinking how this house has survived many storms.

Interpretation

Upper room would represent where the Holy Spirit was originally poured out.

An individual turned into superman, sometimes as Christians we think that we are stronger than what we think and we end up causing a lot of damage to our house.

This individual had a bed and because of the damage that they had caused where they slept was now able to get leaked on.

Debra who happens to be there prepares a meal poached tomatoes with vinagarette dressing.

I can literally taste the dressing because God wants us to know that this is a real situation.

We now eat the meal.

I asked her if she knew someone who could fix the house and then I asked her if she knew someone who could fix the roof.

Mathew 7:24-29

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

This house has survived many storms because we hear what Jesus is saying and we do what He speaks.

Mathew 7:25

25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

No matter what comes against my house I will be able to stand if I take and do what the Word tells me to do.

Is your house built upon the Rock?

Is your house built upon the teachings of Christ?

Are you listening to what the Word of God says to do? (Bible)

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Our bodies our not our own, but were bought with a price and that price was Jesus dying on the cross to purchase you.

Whenever a storm or flood of life comes your way stand upon the Rock which is Jesus and He will see you through.

Has your house survived many storms?

What is your secret?

What kind of meal are you preparing for someone else to eat?

If it seems that your house is not surviving many storms ask your selves a question.

Am I taking the sayings of the Master and applying them to my life?

Jesus works through obedience.

David had a heart that longed for God, yes he messed up but the good news is God was willing to forgive him for what he did.

God was even willing to work with David’s son Solomon and speak to him through dreams.

He told Solomon what to do and how to get the job done and all he had to do was listen and apply what was being spoken.

Are we listening and applying what Jesus is saying to us this morning?

Closing

This house has survived many storms.

Has your house been surviving all the hits that come against us in our walks this morning?

Mathew 16:13-19

13 ¶ When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. {Peter: this name signifies a rock}

19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

If your house is not surviving the storm of life I want you to come up around the alters and take authority over the enemy and his schemes.
