You’re My Help, Jesus, You’re My Help

Hebrews 6:1-12

1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

3 And this will we do, if God permit.

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.

10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

I have entitled this today: You’re My Help, Jesus, You’re My Help

In Hebrews 6:1 it says, “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ;” this is speaking of the first principles which refer to the Old Testament.

Christ is the center piece of the entirety of the Bible.

Then verse one goes on to say, “let us go on unto perfection; and of faith toward God”.

This is speaking of the New Testament Sacrifice of the Lord Jesus, and the Testament that He inaugurated with His work at the cross.

“Not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God”, is referring to Jewish Christians going back to the old sacrifice system.

We no longer have to sacrifice animals for the Atonement of sin, Jesus became the Lamb, the perfect sacrifice that was for all times.

Look at verse 2:

2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Of The Doctrine of baptisms,

Mathew 28:18-20

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The ones who get on us for baptizing this way need to remember what Jesus said, and not take Peters words out of context.

Look at verse 20 one more time, Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

1 Timothy 4:14

14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

This refers to the call of God, and the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon the individual to carry out the call.

The Prophecy verified what the Lord had already done, Paul is reminding Timothy of this verification.

When it says, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery this is referring to pastors at a local church.

We believe in the laying on of hands and we believe that the prayers of righteous individual according to James availeth much.

We believe in the resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

We believe in the rapture of the church according to 1 Corinthians 15:12-18.

12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

We believe in eternal Judgment. If you don’t believe in Jesus, accept Him as your personal Savior, then you will be judged by going to Hell forever.

Hebrews 6:4-6

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

In order to fully understand the meaning of this verse you have to go back to the opening verse in this chapter.

1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

It is talking about people who have chosen to leave the principles of the Doctrine of Christ.

Hebrews 4:4-6 is one of the main scriptures for the Baptist beliefs, they take this to mean once saved always saved.

If that was the case, why would it say in Revelation 2:5, Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

What were your first works? Asking God to forgive your sins and asking Jesus to come into your heart? Then you got baptized.

Scripture always bears out Scripture.

Hebrews 6:10-11

10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

Paul is telling the Christian Jews not to turn their backs on what God had done for them.

In other words, don’t forget.

I have entitled this today:

You’re My Help, Jesus, You’re My Help

Here is the reason why:

Dream 9-9-04

I dreamed that I was in the church Sanctuary. There were other people in the Sanctuary. The lights were off. The only lights that you could see came from the outside. I was talking to Kim about miracles. Out of the blue, I said to Kim, “What was I just talking about?” She said that she did not know. I said I just told you 5 minutes ago. I was in the front pew. I must have been lying down. I noticed that it was dark, dark. The Holy Spirit now picked me up and He sat me up in the pew. I couldn’t believe how dark it was. I was thinking that He was going to take me somewhere. I cried out “You’re My Help Jesus, You’re My Help.

Interpretation:

I was in the sanctuary, there were others there, we were sitting in the dark.

I was talking to Kim about Miracles; remember, she received one in the beginning of 2004.

5 minutes later I asked her what I was talking about, she forgot.

I believe that this is exactly what has happened to her, she has forgotten what God did for her.

To him much is given much is required.

I was lying in the dark, but God sat me up.

He wants me to pay attention to what is going on.

A lot of times we are in the dark, we don’t know what is going to happen.

God knew at the time I had this dream, I told Kim not to forget what God has done.

What has God done for you and you have forgotten?

The Holy Spirit has and is taking me on a journey, I can’t lose heart. I have to stay focused and alert to what is going on.

I was in the dark; I believe now not knowing what was going to happen.

I need to cry out, you’re my Help Jesus, You’re my Help.

Revelation 2:5

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Don’t ever forget that if you play in sin you can and will fall.

1 Corinthians 10:6-14

6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted

7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

You’re my Help Jesus, You’re my Help!

Closing

Don’t ever forget what God has already done for you.

Don’t ever get so spiritually minded that you think you can play around sin and think that you will be able to stand.

It is time to get serious for God!
