Accept The Blessings of God
Genesis 12:2
1. Praise the Lord this morning! Christians ought to praise God. I hear all the time people want to receive blessings from God. I am here to tell you this morning that God wants to bless you. God even has a special blessing for you! The problem is people do not accept the blessings when they come. If you want to receive a blessing you must accept the blessing that God sends.
Genesis 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
2. You see now I have been telling some of you for a long time that to receive a blessing you must first be a blessing. Even the gospel tells us He will bless us and we will be a blessing.
3. God wants to bless you this morning the problem is too many of us want the blessing we don’t want to have to do anything in return for the blessing I want you to know that God said over in Deuteronomy 16 verse 17.
Deuteronomy 16:17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.
1. Are you giving according to your ability this morning? I know what some of you are thinking. Here we go it’s all about the money. Yes you should be giving God his part but no it’s not about money. It’s about caring for your neighbor. God has blessed you today by forgiving you of your sins. Isn’t that wonderful? Then why don’t you share that with another lost soul?
Deuteronomy 28:2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
2. You want to receive the blessings today then you must hear what God has told you already. God said love thy neighbor even as thy self. Treat people with respect give God what is his and listen when he speaks to you. You know sometimes it’s just some small gesture God’s wants you to make and because of your selfishness you don’t. Not only do you miss out on that blessing but now some lost soul may miss out on heaven and their blood is on your hands. Look at what the Bible says in
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
3. If we walk in the light and have fellowship one with another then he will cleanse us of our sins. Isn’t that a blessing? Then why want you accept it? All you have to do to accept that blessing is walk in the light and the light is Jesus. Didn’t he say I am the truth and the light? Well preacher that was sounding good then you had to go and ruin it. Sorry for you but there is only one way to receive and accept the blessings of God and that is to obey his will. And that means walking a path of righteousness. He said in the word all who come to me that are heavy burdened I will give them rest. He did not say maybe he said I will. You must come to Jesus with a pure heart. What is that you ask? A pure heart is when you can honestly say to self and Jesus I just want to be saved, I don’t need riches or worldly treasures I just need you Lord.
Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
4. God wants to give you the blessing of comfort. David said yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow. Let’s look at that for a moment. Have you ever been hurt by a shadow. I have not. That shadow of death will pass over you. You will not feel death isn’t that a great blessing to expect. You can have it. Only if God is with you. I will fear no evil. No evil. None, no not one, not even a little bit. Why because thy rod and thy staff do what? They comfort me. Can you believe that if you walk in the light God will give you comfort as a blessing? Comfort from my troubles and trials. Comfort from my needs and even wants. Comfort for my spirit with Jesus. Oh how a love Jesus. I am truly blessed. I have a friend who created the universe and all that is in it and still takes time to walk with me, talk with me, and provide me comfort. Look at
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
5. Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: Let’s examine that. Ok if you walk in the light you have God’s promise that he will bless you. He will bless you with the forgiveness of your sins. He will bless you by supplying your needs. He will bless you with comfort. Now that’s if you are walking in the light and the light is? Jesus.
6. But preacher that man over there he has fourteen cars and I have only one and it’s a clunker. Well sister so and so she always has money to spend and I am barely getting by. Let me tell you that person may be like the rich man they may be in torment they have all the blessings this world can give but they have not Jesus noir the promise of eternal life and they are miserable. They cannot find happiness noir joy because they do not truly have life.
7. They are without Jesus and Jesus said I am the life. Without Jesus you cannot truly live. You should be thanking God for what you have instead of wanting more. God saw fit to give you what you need and when your heart is where it should which is with Jesus then you can have the desires of your heart also.
8. God knows the desires of your heart. Even when you go to church and you pray God your will be done and inside where no one can hear you are saying if God will bless me I will. God knows those thoughts and he will reward you accordingly.
9. Friends I want you to know that all rewards will not be pleasing to us. Some of the rewards God has will be for those that are without God. Their reward is eternal damnation. Do you think that will be a pleasant reward?
1. Now I am getting ready to come to a close.
2. I want to ask you, are you walking in the light?
3. Can you truly call Jesus your Lord and Savior?
4. If Christ would return in the next second would your heart’s desire be some worldly possession or would it be Jesus?
5. Now I want you to think on that for a second. If you can truly say I am right where I want to be with God then I want you to stay right where you are.
6. But if you feel in you heart that you need more light in your life then I want you to line up right here and accept the blessing God has for you.
Now if you don’t want or desire to do more for the Lord, then stay where you are!
Come on down if you want more of the blessings and more of the power of God in your life.
