Summary: Matthew 17:1-13 This was the only time the glory of Jesus was veiled in human flesh and was allowed to shine forth.

Transformation-Revelation-Transformation

Matt 17:1-5

And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,

2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Matthew 17:1

These same three are made witness of both his Glory (On the Mount) and His agony (Garden of Eden) [Peter, James, and John) He chose those that they might be witnesses of his transfiguration: two or three witnesses being required by the Scripture to establish any fact. By two or three witnesses every word is established.

These three (Peter, James and John) were made witnesses of his agony in the garden, Matt 26:37.

Communications between the Father and the Son of divine favor prepares and permit Jesus for great services and great conflicts. He’s not the reigning King but the suffering Servant.

While he is Lord both of heaven and earth he must prepare his leaders to lead

John 1:1 In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God.

Genesis 1:1 starts with the moment of creation and moves forward to the creation of humanity.

Matthew 17:2

TRANSFIGURATION

Metamorphoomai,"to be transformed"):

signifies a change of form or appearance

A display of God’s glory in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ (Matt 17:1-8; Mark 9:2-8; Luke 9:28-36). Peter cites the Transfiguration as historical proof of the true gospel of Christ (2 Peter 1:16-18).

The transfiguration of the Christian adopts the mind of God, his mind, therefore, becomes his

1) Life 2) Soul 3) Appetite 4) Person 5) You – The total Person

The Part & Purpose of God is to see himself in himself; he has to see himself replicated in Jesus as Jesus himself replicated in us.

Example: John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as the only begotten of the father, full of grace and truth

As we dwell before the world we must become public examples:

Matt 5:16 Let your light so shine before man that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven

17:3

The presence of these two indicates that the Old Testament scripture had been waiting for revelation.

Moses comes to represent the Old Testament law, while Elijah comes to represent the Prophets, but both come because they were looking forward to the messiah and his kingdom.

Old Testament is the New Testament concealed while the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed

The law Established Jesus while the Prophet spoke him

Matt 5:17 Says Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

The Law and the Prophets were both practical and necessary.

Matthew 17:5

While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud (Covering???) overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

The word "my" distinguishes Christ from other children. For he is God’s natural son, we by adoption; therefore he is called the first begotten among the brethren, because although he is by right the only son, yet he is chief among many, in that he is the source and head of the adoption.

The covering speaks and affirms or approves

The seed of everything is doing it again

God didn’t just say something he’s still saying something because faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

The fruit of hearing is faith – The fruit of faith is order – The fruit of order is blessing

Matt 3:13-17 John Confirms

13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Psalm 2:7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Isaiah 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
